Ok, these guys aren't on petfinder, because the breed isn't on petfinder. But I still want to post them! Caucasians are quickly becoming my favorite breed!
    Ovcharka Dog Rescue

    JAKE & KATY

    Katie

    Jake

These two sweethearts were adopted by a family that totally loves them, but has just experienced some major health issues and therefore they need to be rehomed. We would like to try to keep Jake & Katy together: they are a pair of super sweet and well behaved house dogs who are used to having and sharing their very own couch, are great with children and small dogs.

    Kozlak

Kozlak came into rescue because he'd been aggressive toward his owner's children. He's an 8 year old Caucasian and has been very good since he's been here. He still needs to lose some weight, but since he's been taking medicine for his thyroid problems, anemia and chronic, longstanding inflammatory problems, he's been doing really well! He's having so much fun and is actually running through the pasture now. And he is, in fact, feeling ever so much better! He likes to go on long rambling walks by himself and has a marvelous time watching the young bunnies and quail out in the pasture. And like all the dogs, roars at any low flying hawk, falcon or magpie that cruises by. One of his great joys is getting near the sheep at feeding time: he puts his head down and pretends to be grazing along with them.

Koslak has been working out well with adult sheep and lambs, and will not tolerate any incursions into his territory.

    Nino and Nikki
    Nino

    [Nikki

This mother and daughter Caucasian team were possibly going to work out with livestock: well scratch that concept! They think sheep are for chasing and nibbling on. Nino is a very special needs dog in that she is blind. She came here as allegedly a five year old: I suspect she's closer to ten. Niki arrived with no name even though she was supposedly two years old (Actually probably more like three or four)! She's also not had much human contact, since she's very shy around people, but is willing to warm up......but the look in her eyes is "...and why should I trust you?" Niki is Nino's seeing eye dog: these two must be together: if anything, Niki gets even more frantic than Nino when they're separated. They are both dog aggressive but are good with people, in spite of an obvious lack of socialization.

Nino required eye surgery, as the left eye was irritating her quite a bit: given that it was very shrunken in size, the Vet thought this would be better for her anyway. And even after being here almost a year now, Niki still will not stand quietly for brushing, although she'll cheerfully try to steal treats out of my pockets. We have finally been able to groom Niki: and about four tons of matted coat later, we/ve found not much dog under all that! She's very tall and slender and we're hoping she'll start to look more like the breed once all that coat grows back in.

    Cheyanne

Cheyenne is a 3 1/2 year old Caucasian/Central Asian mix that has been with one owner since she was a puppy. She weighs approximately 80-85 pounds
She likes to go for long walks and likes having her belly scratched. She can be dominant with other dogs and ideally needs a home with no other dogs. Although she was raised with three other dogs, she seems to be taking some exception to them at this point. :-)
She needs an owner who can be firm and train her properly and who will enjoy the outdoors as much as she does.

    Hanz and Fritz

    Fritz

    Hanz

Hanz and Fritz are Central Asian Ovcharkas and littermates that arrived here last weekend (2/12/05). Their owner has apparently been transferred overseas and of course their breeder has no interest in taking them back.

Their owner apparently allowed Fritz to be food aggressive around Hanz, because Fritz will do his utmost to keep Hanz away from a food dish. Needless to say, they don't get to be together here at feeding time :-)

They are both very nice dogs and very protective of us, even after being here for only a few days. They love having the pasture to run in and started cruising the fence line to establish their perimeter right after arriving here.

    Bingo

Bingo was found in a shelter in northern California, where no one had any idea just what she was....she is actually a Central Asian Ovcharka and appears to have the typical Ovcharka attitude: she views any other bitch as a problem and definitely does not like terriers! The very kind lady who pulled her from the shelter almost lost her Jack Russell Terrier to this big girl. Bingo is around 4 years old, and somewhat overweight: we're working to get some weight off her. The good news is that while she was still with this lady in northern California, the coyotes and the lone bear that used to romp through her property moved elsewhere.

Bingo is not working out with sheep as she has a tendency to move too quickly and that startles them. But she is an excellent guard dog.

    Ricola

This is Ricola, a very pretty Sharplaninatz who has just come into rescue. There's a good chance that she is Bastian's littermate, and we really think we have finally determined where these dogs originated. There's a breeder in Oklahoma who has one breeding pair listed on her website and yet claims to have puppies throughout the year. Say what????? That means she is keeping her one and only bitch pregnant ALL the time and that her puppies are not remaining with their new buyers. We've had three dogs end up in shelters in Oklahoma and Montana that all look distinctly alike....hmmm.

Ricola is a sweetheart of a girl and becomes protective very quickly once she feels at home. She is approximately 18 months old, spayed and up to date on her shots. She does get along with other dogs as long as they don't challenge her and we're working to see how she does with livestock.

    Angel

Angel is in fact just what her name indicates :-) She's a sweetheart of a Sharplaninatz who would love to be a couch potato somewhere. She does love to play and gets along well with the other dogs, but would really prefer human companionship.

Angel is a littermate of Bela's and Cu's and was raised with children, cats, goats and horses. She watches our sheep but seems otherwise uninterested in them. When she plays, she plays hard and she and Tango like to take huge flying leaps at each other, knock one another over and then pounce. When she plays with one of the smaller dos, she's much more restrained.

Angel's breeder is working with us to find her a home, given that she was sent here in spite of a co-ownership agreement with the breeder.

Also here are two Great Pyranees in the same rescue!
    Ozzie

Ozzie is a young Great Pyrenees whose owner apparently thought allowing him to run free was appropriate. When Ozzie was picked up and taken to the shelter, his owner declined to pick him up, though he did pick up the pregnant female found running loose with him.....charming person, I'm sure. We had him x-rayed as we were concerned about the raised vertebra: we thought this might be a result of malnutrition or an accident. And so it has proven; he was malnourished and had apparently spent a lot of time unable to exercise, as he had no musculature to speak of.

Ozzie is around 16 months old with a coat growing in every which way, extremely underweight and would love to have a family of his own. He does well with other dogs, but would much prefer to cuddle up with a human who will give him all the affection he has lacked in his short life. He is very quick to become protective of what he perceives as his family.

    Zane

Zane is a Great Pyrenees/Newfoundland mix, who was dumped in a Las Vegas shelter along with another dog that was also absolutely terrified of everyone and everything and will require some major "affection therapy" to get the two of them back to normal. Zane keeps looking at me as though I've lost my tiny mind when I tell him "Good Boy!" for virtually everything he does right now that does not have him running and hiding. Sure would love to get my hands on the previous owner...grrrrrrrrr.

Zane is just over a year old and will need an owner really devoted to helping him learn to be a dog. He gets on well with other dogs, to the point where he is actually more comfortable having others around, but is absolutely terrified of humans.

He's been here for a couple of months now and has finally voluntarily come to us for attention. He's thoroughly enjoying running around with several of the other dogs and that has given him sufficient confidence to join them in taking breaks from their exercise time to come to us for cuddling and combing. Yeeha! He's such a sweetheart of a boy and it's truly awesome to watch him coming out of that human-moron-induced shell.

    Naomi
    and Wynona

They have just celebrated their 1 year anneversary of being in a no-kill shelter. They've been there since they were 3 months old. I've been following them since they were brought in and I fully intend to adopt them if they are still there when I'm through with college. Imagine spending your entire life in a shelter. I just hope they don't give up on them and switch them out to a shelter that euthanizes.
