I'm going to email Dixieland Dancer to let her know what you are dealing with. I feel sure she can offer some help, but call your vet first and get the medical advice from them. Dixie's friend had a female that died during a caeserian birth...They were able to find nursing moms who accepted the puppies and I think all of them survived.

    I wish you much luck.

    Hi! Wolflover and Welcome!

Here's an interesting and informative site on raising premature puppies...

    Premature Puppies

A feeding product mentioned is Esplilac...

"If you cannot get the pup going and it seems tired, start to feed it the Esplilac very slowly, a drop at a time, until you are able to get two ccs down."

Good luck to you and the lil Pupsters!!

    Jaquetta,
I am sure you have contacted the vet by now and are probably feeding the babies mother's helper milk (Esbilic).

First you mention the pups are 3 days old. Is that 3 days from their normal delivery date or are they preemies? Are they able to suckle from a bottle or are you tube feeding? Other considerations are keeping the puppies warm, hydrated and getting them to eliminate reguarly.

Puppies can not eliminate on their own until they are about 2 weeks old. Mom usually does this for them. You need to take a warm cotton ball and rub vigorously over their genitals. Pee about once a hour and poop about every two hours.

I really feel at a loss here since I do not know what the circumstances are and that does make a major difference in how you respond. Please email me at [email protected] so I can get your phone number and perhaps call you.

One last initial thought is to check around your area to see if there is a bitch who has whelped recently. There is no substitute for mom and a surrogate is better than none. Even if it's not the same breed! A friend recently had 9 pups who had two surrogate mom's and they are doing great today. Don't think they would be here if they had to do it all by hand.

Please email me if you need to talk or want more information.

Thanks Logan for letting Candace know if you did..lols and for everyone who replied. I appreciate all the advice I can get. My babies appear to be doing ok so far, as long as I can keep it that way. I have worried myself sick over trying to keep them alive and happy...lols.

Jaquetta sent me an email telling me what happened. It is a very sad story but she is doing a great job caring for the babies. When she gets a chance I'm sure she will post the story. I don't feel it is my place. Just pray for these little ones and for Jaquetta to have the strength to continue in caring for them. It is a very difficult job she has before her if they don't find a surrogate mom and the pups really are not out of the woods until they are 3 or 4 weeks old.
