    My sweet little Creamsicle

    Hi Friends,
Well, Dr. LeBeau was able to pinpoint what's going on w/my little deaf cat, Creamsicle. She has a cyst on her ovaries and she's in perpetual heat. That's why she's been yowling so much. Y'know, that's what I thought it was but she didn't writhe on the floor or put her little butt up in the air like my others cats did when they were in heat, so I wasn't sure. Anyhow, he gave me some meds for her and in about 4 months, she'll have to be spayed. I'm really nervous about this because of her deafness and brain disease. But Dr. LeBeau has such compassion that he said that I could be there the second she wakes up from the anesthesia so that she could see my face, seeing that she couldn't hear them soothing her. And this is a man whose house has flooded. (No, he's not in New Orleans. We had quite a bit of rain, too, and his old house that he's trying to sell because he built a new one caved in, poor guy.) I was going to have Cgirl spayed right before he took early retirement and I didn't feel comfortable w/anyone else doing it. So, if it needs to be done, he's the one to do it.

So, hopefully, both Cgirl and I will get some sleep tonight. And Puddy says "Yeah! Now maybe the focus will be off me for a while."

    Blessings,
    Mary

Poor Creamsicle!! At least you know what the problem is and soon it will be taken care of. That is nice that they will allow her to see you as soon as she awakens. I am sure that will help to reassure her. Best wishes to both of you and Puddy too!!

but puddy knows you wouldn't leave her alone with your handloves!

hmmm, creamsicle sounds just like my deaf cat, eclypse! now I'm thinking if that's only deaf catts like that? is she completely deaf or could sense the loud sounds?

poor thingie, I'm glad you took her to lebeau and found this earlier and that she could be treated & feel better soooooooner. lebeau seems a very nice one, lucky creamsicle!

will be think of you all three! ...

In the beginning, I said she was stone deaf. But now she seems to be able to hear loud sounds, so I'm not sure. Dr. LeBeau said that the meds would take approx. 48 hrs. to work, so last night she was still singing opera, today, too, though not as much. Hopefully, in another day, she'll have calmed down. I'm tired! And Puddy decided that she's been patient long enough, so she fought me plenty during her SQ fluids this morning. She tried to take off running 6 times, so that's 6 times the needle had to be inserted. I think she finally figured out she was gonna be pinched again and again until she sat still. Last time, she didn't move a muscle, so I thought I'd have clear sailing today. Not. But then, this is Puddy.

    Blessings,
    M

Mary, how are Creamsicle and Puddy doing?

Puddy did great today w/the SQ fluids. It seems that every other time she decides she's gonna be feisty. But then, if I had a needle stuck in me every 3 days, I'd probably cop an attitude, too. She stayed perfectly still until right at the end. She seems to know when it's time to stop the fluids and she lets out this pathetic little meow. But she's forgiving and doesn't hold a grudge.

Creamsicle is doing great, too. No more yowling, well, maybe just a little but that's usually when I leave the room and she can't find me. So I guess I've got my preview of how nice it will be around here when she gets spayed. I don't want to do it; it's gonna be a sleepless night for me but it's for her own good. She can't be in perpetual heat. But even when I give her a pill, she acts as though she's being punished and she runs and hides from me after it's over and no amount of coaxing will make her come out. I have to wait. Well, anyhow, she's doing ok.

Here's hoping that everyone on PT is well and happy....

    Blessings,
    M

agh - what is it with notifications..

yeah, I'm not sure if eclypse could hear louds or just feels the light vibrations (maybe?) from loud sounds. yesterday, taking out my metal little box with laundry coins in, & walking way out -- when one cat was being pesty to another, I had the box in my hand so I shaked "stop it now, children!" and it woke up eclypse. then I tried again without shaking in her sights (above the table, she was under the table), she didn't even look up. *shrugs*

anyhoo, I'm happy to hear pudster is still being a trooper and for creamsicle being cooperative! well, let's hope that would be only one sleepless night for you!

sorry you're not getting many 'hugs' around here but please do keep me (and some) posted! I love hearing about them, good or bad. take care, mary.

rest and sleep softly sweet locke..

Mary, forgive me for not seeing this sooner. These past few days have been very hectic for me.

I'm so glad that you found out the trouble with little Creamsicle. Love the name, btw! What a wonderful vet you have. Do you think that he could make a house call to Canada??? Well, I tried. More prayers coming out to you.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

Yes, I was very happy when Dr. LeBeau came out of retirement. I prayed for 4 years that he would. He was too young to retire and he admits it now; says he missed it too much. He remembered Creamsicle and said how pitiful she was when I first brought her to him. (She could only walk in circles then and her head swung violently back and forth like a pendulum due to her brain disease.) But he fixed her up and now she walks like a salamander and her head just has a slight tremor. I named her Creamsicle because of her coloring. She was so tiny and I picked her up and said "Oh, you're too cute! You look just like a little creamsicle. I could eat you up!". And the name stuck.

When my dog Charmin died, Dr. LeBeau hand wrote a two page letter to me. He's a wonderful, caring vet and I'm lucky to have him only 10 min. away. However, I still may have Dr. Lee do Cgirl's spay. This man has quite a staff and he has an instinct like none I've ever seen. I wouldn't hurt Dr. LeBeau's feelings for the world. But Dr. Lee would have an anesthesiologist as well as an assistant while he did the surgery. I don't think Dr. LeBeau has that. I'll find out, though.

    Blessings,
    M

creamsicle, guess you have been behavoring quietly lately.. since I probably only 'hear' your purrings, I'm gonna check with your meowmie & talk, ok?

how is she doing? no more yeowlings I hope for your good restnights!

    night hugs,
..gina & eclypse (she's all curious about your Cgirl!)

p.s. knowing lebeau has an anesthesiologist yet?

Cgirl is like a new kitty. Purr, purr, purr, no yowling. Mom gets to talk on the phone and get some sleep. I haven't talked to Dr. LeBeau about whether or not he has an anesthesiologist yet but, believe me, I will. I prefer that she get spayed by him. I know that Dr. Lee has the skill but he's twice as expensive, is over an hour away and he has the knowledge but Dr. LeBeau has the heart. Such a dilemma!

I just always thought it was the hugh vet clinics/hospitals that had their own anesthesiologist.
A simple spay I'd go with the vet you feel most comfortable. I would go with Dr. LeBeau, that's my 2 cents.
