    New Fur Child

    Evening All,
First.. I hope and pray that f anyone is in the path of Katrina that you are safe and sound.

As you all know we have 4 fur children from our no kill SPCA where I volunteer. I was there last week and fell in love (no big surprise) with a little man who is only 4 months old. I ONLY adopt adults but I am making an exception.

He is a black/white tuxedo. The staff has named him Jesse. OK here it comes.

Apparently Jesse was thrown over the shelter's fence where he was found dragging his left hind leg. He was taken to the vet who stated that the leg was broken before he was pitched over the fence, but it was a very bad break. So he was taken to a wonderful critical care hospital near Richmond. I got a call this morning from the asst director. Jesse's toes were cold. No blood circulating and they found a clot. They have to amputate the entire hind leg. he has a temp of 105.
    I am scared.

Dear friends.. I am asking for prayers for my little man. PLEASE send him prayers, healing and if anyone is a Reiki practitioner.. please send him Reiki as well.

THank y ou all so much.

    Deb mommacat.

Thats is terrible news. You and Jesse both are in my prayers. I know he will be fine, he sounds like a strong boy. And now he has you and a loving home, so that will be enough to keep him going!

Good luck! He'll do just fine! I currently have three 3-legged girls that are 5 months old. The one had her leg completely amputated at 4 months old and she's the spit fire of the three (the other two have stumps). You'll be amazed at his spirit and determination. Congrats on the new baby!

Ohhh THank you all!! THank y ou all for your kind words and encouragement.

CAT NAPPER... Do any of your little girls have a hind leg that has been amputated? Are there any dressing changes that he'll have to have done?

I am home all day today as both of our air conditioners are being taken out and replaced. Soooo I am home sitting on pins and needles.

    Thank you all so much.

Thank you for opening your heart & home to this special boy. How much more awful can people be to throw him over a fence with a broken leg!? He'll do fine with three legs (several three leggers here, and one with no hind legs) and amaze you in no time flat. With amputations there are usually no dressings to be changed, but he'll likely come home with an e-collar, and antibiotics. He'll also probably get an antibiotic shot to bring his temp down before surgery. I hope to see pictures of Jesse sometime. Keep us posted! Jan

Smokey the Elder had her back leg amputated to the hip to remove a tumor. The stump was scary looking with all the staples, but she didn't seem to mind a bit. She came upstairs the first night she was home. I think your little guy will be just fine!

They will in time. I posted about this in another thread just recently, although it is a dog & cat issue. My poor kitties are still scared of Roscoe, and it gets pretty frustrating sometimes.
