Cat Vomitting in her Dry Food Bowl

Katrina Catherine is a ferrel calico cat who slowly but assuredly adopted my partner and I about a year ago. Neither of us have ever had a cat before.

She was spayed and given all necessary vaccines due to the fact that she insists on going outside daily (even in winter). She prefers to do her business outside which makes it difficult for me to monitor things.

She has only had 1 fur ball in the last year (about 6 month's ago) .... but recently (about 3 weeks) I noticed her straining to poop. I called a vet who said to wait and watch and that if she stopped eating ... to bring her in right away.

I tried giving her pumpkin but she refused, she did like the taste of olive oil and I started using hairball remedy (the petroleum malt / fish flavored) product and I walked around the yard and can see her fresh deposits from time to time.

This morning I let her outside and about an hour and half later she came in to eat .... then I noticed that she vomited / reguritated her dry food right in her dry food bowl. All it looked like was the dry food mixed with saliva and nothing more.

Should I worry about this .... or is it something that happens from time to time? Is it possible that I am giving her too much of the malt petroleum product? I give her a dab on my finger daily.

    Welcome Kally Cat.

How did she behave around the vomiting. If it was immediately after eating and if she was happy and hungry after- then I wouldn't worry- she may have been too greedy.

Cats vomit easily as it is a way to get rid of food that might not be good for them or to get rid of hairballs.

If she is quiet, does not eat, and if you notice that she isn't peeing or pooping then it could be a serious problem with her digestive tract then it would be better to see the vet.

From how it looked I would say it's not problematic. My Tigris does it 2 times a week

    Thanks Barbara

This is so confusing .... if only pets could talk ... you would know what more to do.

I just called home to check on her and my partner said she was looking at her dry food bowl ... and then eating from it. So I hope all is well.

Although I just spoke to a lady at work who has had cats all her life. She thinks maybe Kally might have a urinary tract infection. Because whenever one of her cats stained ... it was to pee and never to poop. She also does drag her bum on the carpet often. I see her do that at night a few times a week.

Maybe it is time for a vet appointment ... just to be sure.

Dragging her bum over the carpet sounds like worms. Regarding that she is an outside kitty I would give some de-worming pills.

Whatever you described does not sound like an UTI. An UTI starts with a kitty peeing outside the litterbox or with a kitty who goes to the litterbox every ten minutes and not peeing or only a little peeing.

You should be able to tell the difference whether she is straining to pee or to poop as the body shape is different.

Cat Vomitting in Dry Food Bowl

Hey welcome to PT & enjoy the talks & pictures. Yes I go thru this with my Yardleigh & Buttons due to they are greedy with food.. However I do think deworning & invest in hairball stuff would/should take care of things.. My girls just love Whiska's Temptations for hairball & works just great.. Good Luck & keep us posted..
