Man Forced to Wear Sign for Animal Cruelty

I think he got off lightly...maybe he should have gone through what the poor dog endured!

Man Forced to Wear Sign for Animal Cruelty

A western Pennsylvania man said he endured more than he expected when he agreed to an unusual sentence for an animal cruelty conviction.

Ulysses Zimmerman, 22, of Point Marion, pleaded guilty to animal cruelty for allegedly neglecting his dog, denying it veterinary care and strangling the animal.

But Zimmerman didn't pay a fine or spend time in jail. Instead, he stood at a busy intersection in South Union Township Thursday, wearing a sign that read, "I Plead Guilty ... Animal Cruelty is a Crime ... My Dog's Name WAS Salt and Pepper."

Zimmerman was supposed to stand at the intersection for eight hours, but Robin Moore, the Fayette County Humane officer who devised the sentence, allowed Zimmerman to leave early because of all the abuse passing motorists hurled at him.

"Everybody started screaming at me and cussing me. I got there at 9:30 a.m., but Robin said at noon that she'd heard enough and that I could leave," Zimmerman said.

Zimmerman denies he intentionally hurt his pet.

Good idea as part of a sentence, but they should have made
him stay the full eight hours.

Too bad they didn't let the passersby beat on him a little.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I'd say he did not hear enough. Even the full 8 hours would not have been enough.

I think had the punishment been completed (a full 8 hrs) it would have been a far better punishment than the usual slap on the wrist that most people get like a small fine. I wish he would have stayed and suffered the torture and humiliation.

I wish I had know about that, I would have driven over there (only an hour or so away from me ) and strangled him to let him know how it feels. They should have left him there not only the full 8 hours, but overnight, alone, as well.

yes, the best punishment would have been to spend a whole week there 8 hours a day.

I think the early dismissal may have been to protect some passers-by (like most of us if we had seen it) from getting in even deeper trouble by stopping the car, jumping out and doing more than verbally abusing this cretin

    Awww. Poor baby.

Too bad I wasn't at the intersection with him.

    Again, the system fails.
