    ear scrape

I noticed a little round ear scrape in my cat, lucy's ear on Sunday. She's not scratching at it or acting distressed at all so I thought i would give it a day or two to see what happened. She still seems fine, but I'm taking her to the vet anyway. Even still, all my web searching hasn't come up with anything that seems similar to what she has. A little round scrape that doesn't seem to be healing on its own. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? I'm not freaking out yet, but I am curious. Thanks.

First, welcome to PT. Sorry your first experience with us is medical related.

Now, on to the medical issues...does it look like a scratch the kitty gave itself? Or, did it get caught somewhere? Do you have another kitty that might have inflicted the wound? Is this an indoor only kitty? Does it look raw, infected, etc? You could always try a little topical anti biotic on it....not too much, just enough to coat it a little.

Probably like you, I would take him/her to the vet. Just in case. Welcome again, and hopefully it is nothing at all.

Hi cataholic. Thanks for replying so quickly. Yes, lucy does have a buddy Oni. And they do tussle from time to time. but the scrape is a perfect circle and it does seem a bit raw. She is an indoor only kitty. I would feel better if it would just form a hard scab. She does like to rub her head and tussle with our bedroom rug so it could be a rug burn. hmmmmm. Why didn't i think of that sooner!
