Could someone tell me the story of the rainbow bridge?

I had never heard of the rainbow bridge until I found this site. Is it the bridge to heaven for animals?

tutone, thank you so much. That is so much nicer than thinking of them going through the tunnel that I have heard about. I hope it's a wide bridge because I have such a crowd waiting for me all ready.
