I need advice on my foster kitties...

Okay all your rescuers and foster moms and dads, I need advice on the two girls I rescued last week.

They've been in the same room for the past 5 days, Parker, the Siamese, has had free rein of the room while Puddin, has been in a cage, being let out frequently.

For the past 2 days I've left the door to the cage open and there have been no fights, just a little hissing. Puddin likes the security of it, because it has her own litterbox, a hammock she can hang in and food and water.

Should I leave the cage up?? Or put it away??I was going to leave the two of them in the room together, with a kitty tent, and an open carrier and a kitty hammock and a common litterbox??

They seem to be fine with each other. But I just wonder if I should keep the cage up??

    Lemme know what you think.

Donna, I think if you have an open carrier for Puddin' to retreat into if she feels like she needs the security everything should be ok.

I think get rid of the cage and just keep on eye on them. I am sure Puddin' and Parker will let you know if the cage is needed again. So, maybe for the next 2 or 3 days just leave it stored close at hand. Outside of their room but close enough to access it if needed in a hurry.

If you're going to be around tomorrow, to intervene if necessary, take the cage out of the room and see what happens.

WELL WITH THE CAGE BEING HER 'SECURITY ZONE', I'D LEAVE IT. MY CATS HAVE ABANDONED THE CAGE WHEN THEY'RE READY. I ONLY EQUIP IT WITH BEDDING, FOOD & WATER... I ALWAYS PUT THE LITTERBOX OUTSIDE THE CAGE. I DO THIS WITH S/N ALSO, I JUST LEAVE THE DOOR PROPPED OPEN, THAT WAY THEY CAN CATCH A BREAK FROM THE OTHERS. IT'S DIFFERENT HERE B/C WE HAVE NO DOORS NOT EVEN ON THE BATHROOM!! THEY WON'T FIT THE WC.

I'm ever so sorry I can't give any advise... As a child mamma sometimes had two fur-siblings at the same time... but the "new" kitty was alway introduced straight away to the "old" kitty... All kitties mamma had as siblings as a child/teenager were homeless kitties... And grandmamma just didn't have the heart to ever let a homeless kitty go without a home! There were never more than two at the time... and the "new" ones always seemed to adapt with the "old" one... the "old" one was mainly "Puss-Puss", as she came as an adult homeless cat when mamma was 6, and had to be put to sleep the year mamma was 17 (due to cancer)...

I shall wish you luck, in the quest for the two little cuties to be friends! Even if they don't become good buddies, they should pretty quickly learn to live around eachother.

Best wishes, Spartacus and his mamma!

Donna, I completely missed this. What did you decide to do? How are they doing?

    Jen,

The girls are doing well. Parker has put on weight (I feed them 3x day). I kept the cage up and open so that Puddin has her own "escape" complete with hammock, litterbox and food. When I feed them the canned food, I lock Puddin in her cage because she has a tendency to go after Parker's food once she's finished hers. Once they're done, the cage door comes open and stays open 24/7. They get along okay. Puddin is no more than a year old. She's VERY kitten-like and her teeth are very white. She loves playing with the teaserwand.

I've taken pictures, including the one of the mess Puddin made in her cage. Maybe that's a sign that it's time to put it away, and leave a crate door open just in case one of them needs to escape.

    Here's Puddin:

    Here's Parker:

She's alot more relaxed than she was. Everytime I go into the room, she sniffs my lips and then puts her head down so I can kiss it.

And, last but not least...the MESS!!!

    Tell me what ya think

Maybe she is trying to tell you something. either she didn't like the litter LOL or maybe she has had enough of the cage.

Well done Parker!!! you're lucky being such a sweetie that nobody gets angry with you! Mamma doesn't mind what ever I do... as I'm her little baby... daddy on the other hand...

Puddin and Parker - you're both adorable!!!

They are both doing well. Parker is putting on weight. Puddin still doesn't appreciate being handled much. She puts on this act like she wants to bite me. I just leave my hand in her mouth and she ends of licking my hand! What a mush!

I'm going to take her to the Grosse Ile Animal Shelter this week, because she has a better chance of getting adopted there than staying at my house.

Parker on the otherhand, will stay with me. I am an official foster mom for PurrsAbound, which is a Meezer rescue. They pay for all her vet bills and stuff. Hopefully, I can let her out among my cats eventually.

There is something VERY appealing about both cats, but I find myself drawn to Parker. I don't blame you one bit for keeping her, I would in your shoes!
Thanks again for caring so much, the world needs more people like you!
