    Unhappy Andy won't poop

I cannot get my lab x, Andy to poop outside. It is as if he holds it and won't go! I am frustrated and don't know what to do to help him. We have another dog too, and a regimented schedule. We let them out to pee, then we feed them, then we let them out to poop. Sammy always goes, but Andy won't. So we've tried waiting 15 minutes, we've tried a reward system, it seems nothing works. He finally will go on the carpet .
I am at my wits end.
    Any advise?
    thank you in advance.

Vigorous exercise almost *always* encourages a dog to go #2... After he eats, allow him to digest his food for a little while, then take him outside and play ball, frisbee, or run with him for 30 minutes.

Do you notice a particular time of day when he goes? Dixie and Dusty are both on a morning Poo schedule. Sometimes one of them will go later in the day too but it's always in the morning. If you determine a particular time of day, you can make sure your dog is outside then.

Dogs do not have to poo just because they ate their dinner. It takes a while for the food to digest and then travel through the intestines (usually 6 hours or so) before what they ate will be ready to come back out.

I would crate train the dog until it understood potty is outside and not on the carpet. If done correctly most dogs over the age of 12 weeks can catch on really quick if it's done correctly. If your dog will not poo after exercising for about 15 minutes, then bring him in the house and either crate him or teather him to you with a loose leash. Until there is a poo outside there is no house freedom. Make a big fuss over him when what you desire is accomplished.

I agree with bkcrazy.... a nice brisk walk always worked with my pookiemama when we were trying to figure out her "schedule".

    I agree with everyone else.

You may also want to try to bring his poops outside. Place them in the area you want him to potty in. When you bring him out he should find his poops & realize that they are his via smell. That may help him realize that that is where he should go.

    Good luck!

When I had a dog I taught it to do his things on command. Twice a day we went on longer walks or runs and twice only for toilet, that took 5 minutes.
