barking constantly

Hi there
my puppy of 7 months barks at anyone who passes our house. He barks at my neighbour everytime he comes outside. I tell him to stop and I pull on his cord and I even bring him inside but he just goes to the window and barks anyway. can anyopne give me an suggestions?

.i have the same problem with my goldie (11 mon.).but it is my fault becuz i used 2 let her get away with it.i guess every time he barks u can put him in his kennel.other than that i don't have any advice.by the way welcome 2 Pet Talk!

Hes just doing his job really. A dogs nature is to defend its territory.What you have to do is let him know his boundaries ,
which he may defend.Any Q:s ?

We have a dog that we rescued from a neighbor. In the neighbors yard he'd bark at everything day and night, drove us nuts. When we got him he became an indoor dog so it wasn't as bad. Now that we've moved and live up on a hill he can see everything indoor or outdoor and it became a problem again. The vet and trainer both recommended a bark collar. There are 2 types, a citronella collar and a shock collar. 1 gives a squirt of citronella whenever the dog barks the other gives a small shock. We used the the collar for about 6 months and no longer have to use it. It worked immediately, but he's a bit stubborn and didn't take the hint so we kept having to put it back on, now we only have to do periodic reminders.

When Tiki was younger she also barked at EVERYTHING!

Some books advice you to ignore the dog when he barks and then praise him when he’s quiet.. That never worked with Tiki. She just continued barking until the neighbours started complaining.

So what I started to do instead was; if there was something outside which upset her (a cat, a person, bird etc.) I went over to the window, letting her know that I had noticed the “intruder” but then carried on as normal.. I does kind of make sense. She was sounding an alarm and I (as alpha) came to make sure it wasn’t anything serious so she could relax again..

I also used distractions.. Asking her to do some tricks and then she got a nice treat as reward. (It’s important to ask the dog to do something before he gets the treat, otherwise he will probably think he’s getting treats for barking and that would only make it worse)
