It's Shar-pei. I work at pet boarding facility and we have a few shar-peis that we board pretty frequently.

My cousin just got one, I saw her this weekend for the first time. She was so cute and goofy.
I've been Defrosted!
Thanks for the great signature Kay!
There is a shar-pei breeder near me, so I see some once in a while. One time I went to the dog beach and met a shar-pei/rottweiler/pit bull mix. He looked like a shar-pei, but he was gigantic. Such a cool-looking dog.
I've been BOO'd!
heres a Shar-Pei

They used to be popular impulse dogs but now people know better. Overbreeding and impulse buying can destroy the good health and good reputation of any breed. Even people who aren't allergic to dogs can have reactions to the shar-peis unusual fur. Their fur is like sandpaper not fur and petting an adult dog can give you a rash. Also they have tons of health problems; dysplasia, eye problems, skin problems, just to name a few. They were bred for dog fighting and can still be aggressive if they aren't trained and socialized properly. You need to find one of few reputable breeders to find a good Shar-pei. By the way I have never seen it as Char-pei. We still get a few into our humane society once in a while from people who bought them on impulse and realized that this is not the dog for them. It will be a while before they fully overcome the 1980's shar-pei craze. I wish cockers would recover from their overbreeding craze already, people are sometimes afraid of my Pepper, who grew up with children and was the perfect child's pet who never bit a soul.

I really like the flowered Shar-peis the best, they are soo cool looking.
My aunt used to have one and it was a cool looking dog but was very protective.

We came SO close to getting a Shar-Pei instead of a Sheltie as our first dog.Thank god my dad didn't keep pushing for that breed.. he knew nothing about them. He just liked the way they looked.
Cool dogs though.. but they're just not for me.![]()

I rescued a sable, brush coat Shar-Pei about 3 weeks ago. It was quite an ordeal too, I've never really gone through so much trouble to rescue a dog. I had to tranquilize her and wait for it to kick in. Just when I thought she was down for the count, she would get up and run when I approached. We finally got her cornered and had to carefully get something around her neck and drag her onto the car cover where we wrapped her up and tossed her into the car. When we were trying to catch her I thought I heard her growl at me, but once we got her in the car she snorted a few times so I was worried for nothing. The local Shar-Pei rescue took her since she was purebred. She turned out to be a very sweet dog, heartworm negative, and generally healthy. She went to her new home last weekend!!

My friends in Hohenfels, germany, adopted a full grown 60 pound male sharpei from a family that was moving and couldn't take him. He was huge, and, they should never have gotten him. He was so much dog, and, man, it didn't matter how often you bathed him, he always smelled awful. When I get my photos from Texas, I'll scan the ones I have of Lidka (I loved the name). He was very cool looking, but, way too much dog for the couple that got him. And, his ears would always get so much junk in them and they had to have surgery on his eyes a couple of times. They are a lot of work. I don't know if he ever had agression problems, it seems I remember them writing me when we moved back to the States, and, telling me he got agressive with a lot of dogs. But, he was always sweet with Bruno. I know I personally wouldn't get one.
