    Peacocks.....on our roof!

I was having breakfast this morning, getting ready to go to bed when I heard this noise. At first, I thought they were working on the house next door. An addition is being added. Then, Duke started barking. I looked out front and didn't see anything. Doogie was standing so still and just staring out into the pool area. I couldn't see anything until I noticed the shadows on the concrete. Huge bird shadows. I went out and looked up on the roof. There were at least seven peacocks! I couldn't believe it. I don't know if these are wild or what. I have no idea where they came from, either. They stayed on our roof for the longest and I got some good pics. Enjoy!

There were some that had that pretty green on their necks but didn't get close enough to them.

And here's Duke waiting for me to come in.

They are so cool! Very pretty birds! Do you usually see peacocks in the wild where you live? Or are they tame? Great pictures! They look really big... about how big were they?

My friend's uncle, who lives with them on their farm, has a lot of different birds, white doves, peacocks, and some other kinds. The doves are so cool, because he lets them go at weddings and stuff more than 30 miles away, then he just goes home, and they fly home themselves!

Oh Val, we have got to talk about these guys. You said you wanted me to come up and see you some time, well how about I come up, see you and pick up a couple of peacocks also.

We have had peacocks for years, even with my ex-husband, peacocks was the one pet, he didn't mind us having. Ours use to roost on our roof also. Ever night they would go on the roof (over our bedroom) and then every morning, we where woken by the thump thump and bomb of them coming off the roof. They became our morning alarm clock. Those where our two males, for some reason our female, never sleep with them, she took the roof of the shed.

Anyway, not to long ago our female, Penelope, past, old age. It broke my heart, she was so cool, she even ate with Odie, they where buds........to a point. I have the greatest movie of the two of them, funny.

Anyway, if you find out they are wild, please let me know, my husband and I would love to be able to come get them and give them a safe home, lots of land, free feeding (no hunting for food) and lots and lots of love. We have been looking for some for a year now. We rescued several out of Palm Beach awhile ago, living in some woman's back yard. But after a time, the vet informed us that they where very ill, he guessed from living in a city, eating food out of trash, etc etc. So they where put down.

Where they just females on you roof? or are where there males around also?

Libby, I have no idea if some of them were females. They were gone this afternoon. This is the first time they've been there. If they keep coming, you'll have to get up here early and catch them. It was just a little after 8 when they were discovered. I think it was so special, especially for mother's day. I wish they would keep coming.
Someone else asked how big they were. They were pretty big. About 2 feet long.

Yeah the two that you took pictures of are females. If they do start coming around again, lets us know, and we have no problem coming up early, late, whatever, to get them.

The last bunch, we caught, we did last at night, when they had roosted in this womans tree for the night. It is a lot easier to catch them like that. We blinded them with a flashlight, long enough to keep them off guard, to net them. In the cage they went.......off to their new home.

To us there is nothing better, to look in your back yard and see Peacocks, they are amazing birds.

Here's an old picture of Penelope, wandering our yard. I miss her.

And a picture a friend of ours took of Pea showing off. I was never lucky enough to have a camera ready, when he did his little dance.

Now who wouldn't want this in their back yard.
