    Silversmithing

    I took an introduction to silversmithing course this weekend. It was lots of fun--hard work, but fun. Our final project was a ring. This is mine:

    This is the front-it's a thumb ring.


    There is a heart on either side of the pawpring.

    I made a couple pendants too. I'm going to work them into some of my beaded jewellery.

    Wow, cool! That's a neat skill to have, and of course we all love the ring - paw prints and hearts - how could we not? How did you stamp the design into the metal?

    It actually started as two separate flat strips of silver. I cut the design into one strip, then soldered them together and then did a bunch of finishing work (sanding, polishing, ect) so that you can't see where the circle joined or the line between the two strips of silver.

    You could make a program out of that idea. It looks gorgeous. I was making rings out of silver wire years and years ago and liked to wear them at all fingers
