Update on Andy ~ yesterday's visit with the lung doctor

    Hey gang!

Thank you all for the support you gave us while Andy was ill and in the hospital.

He's visited the lung specialist at least once a month since he was released from the hospital. His most recent visit was yesterday.

    First and foremost...

    ANDY HAS GAINED WEIGHT!!

He's at about 140 lbs. right now. He's now shooting for 150.

For those that don't recall, Andy weighed 120 lbs. when he was admitted into the hospital.

He's so excited to have gained so much.

Sadly his asthma is back. He's on an inhaler but is only to use it when he feels stuffed up and such. So he pretty much has to take it everywhere with him.

The x-rays showed his lungs are healing well, but there is scar tissue on the left lung (the lung the didn't have surgery done on it) so that's baffeling.

He also can't take a full deep breath, but that may get better over time.

    Now for the scary news.

He found out just how close he came to dieing when he had to have emergency surgery. We knew he had internal bleeding, but didn't know how extensive it was.

The lung specialist told Andy he had lost nearly a gallon of blood. A few minutes longer and he would of bled to death.

    So happy that didn't happen.

Just thought you all might enjoy the update.

    That's very good news

Regarding the fact how serious this was I think one cannot expect that it all is over. The surgery saved his life but could not make him all healthy.

But gaining weight is great and I am sure it also helps to make him a very good looking bridegroom

How scary it must have been to hear how close a call it was for him.

Not yet. But as soon as we have a place together, he'll probably have the doctors telling him to lose weight!

Asthma's no picnic, but I've lived with it since I was 5. Once you get it figured out and stable, it's not so bad. Easier for girls, though, as we carry purses which make always having an inhaler with you easier.

I'm so glad Andy's improving. Tell him (if he doesn't read this) that we're all very proud of him, and to keep up the good work.

Kimmy, that's wonderful that he's gaining weight. Strangely I was just thinking about how Andy was today and here's my update! I'm glad he's getting better. Maybe the fact that both of you know how close he was to death can give you a better understanding on how precious life is. It could be the silver lining .
