    Duncan and Collin's Accident

On Sunday, Collin and I took Duncan to the park down the street to play some ball with him. We brought the camera and were going to take some nice happy pictures of us all playing together...well that didn't happen! We were there about 15 minutes, I was getting the ball from Duncan because he will only come to me and giving it to Collin to throw because he throws farther. Well, Collin decided to kick the ball, like a football player punts it, I guess thinking it would go farther
And of course, as he goes to kick it, Duncan runs in front of him and Collin ends up kicking Duncan right in the head.!
I didn't really see what happened but I heard a THWUMP noise and turned around to see Collin rolling on the ground holding his leg and Duncan chasing after the ball. I was yelling, "what happened, what happened? I wasn't sure if Collin had hit Duncan or if that noise was his ankle breaking or what...So I'm panicking, Collin's rolling around in the mud in pain and not answering me and Duncan is off running around with his ball. Collin finally gets up and limps over to a nearby fence, still never says a WORD to me so I still have no idea what is going on but at least I know he hasn't broken anything since he's walking!
So I turn to Duncan, he comes running over with the ball and BLOOD COMING OUT OF HIS MOUTH!!! So NOW I'm flipping out. I immediately think that one of his teeth has been knocked out and start scanning the ground as I run to him. I take the ball which is covered in blood and look inside Duncan's mouth, all his teeth are still there Thank God. But he has a cut inside his top lip and it's a little swollen around the top lip in the front. He doesn't even seem to notice and just wants to keep playing ball. I on the other hand, was dying! Collin shows me his leg and he has a huge black and blue mark on his shin and a small cut on his ankle.
I pack up everything and get ready to go home wishing we had never come to the park to begin with....we leave, Collin limping, Duncan with a fat lip and me all shook up and covered head to toe in blood....what a mess.
And to top it off, Collin gets mad at me because I was more concerned about the dog than him! D*mn right! He's a grown man, he should have known better!! Duncan is an innocent bystander that got caught up in Collin's stupidity!! And truth be told, I always take Duncan's side
So I think all is well now...Duncan seemed a little down this am so I'm going to keep an eye on him. His lip may have been sore after sleeping all night...Poor guy. Is there any treatment for it? Should I just watch it and make sure it's healing ok? I feel so bad for him, he's so bored with living in the apartment, he prefers to be with me alone, not me and Collin, I think he misses my father and my father's house(where we lived before NJ) and now this.....I think he needs a vacation!

Poor Jenn!!!!!! Poor Duncan!!!!!! Poor Collin!!!!!

Bless your hearts!!!! I don't know what I would have done, either, Jenn. I think, figuring that Collin would have taken care of his own hurt leg and ego, I would have gone to Duncan, too, knowing that Collin was at least still standing and no blood!!!

Hope everyone will be feeling better today.

Yikes!! I hope Duncan and Collin recover quickly. *hugs*

There is a woman at the dog park that has a pair of dogs that will not fetch a ball if it's thrown. If it's kicked on the other hand... zoom! Off they go.

The ball can go farther in some circumstances.

The dogs are right there in a play bow/goalie position, so the ball rarely goes far. It usually ends up becoming a game trying to sneak it past them.

    Poor Collin!!!!!
You're too nice Logan! I'm not the least bit concerned with the lump on Collin's leg! He thinks he sprained his ankle and I would care...if he didn't do it on my beloved dog's beautiful face!!!!!

Duncan comes first in my house! God have mercy on anyone who tries to come between me and my dog! Collin is learning quickly that Duncan does no wrong. The other day, Duncan knocked over my glass of water and I told Collin it was his fault for calling Duncan over near the water!!

Oh Jenn! Poor pupper! And Collin, of course But I've been there Jenn. Went to kick the soccer ball for Star once and ended up kicking her It took me weeks to get the vision of her terrified face out of my head! A few times I've thrown the ball for her where she goes out for a pass, turns around and ends up getting beaned with the ball! She would cringe and crawl if I held up that yellow ball for weeks. I hope Duncan AND Collin are doing better, Jenn. But you're right, the grown man knows what happened and why; not the pup! I too would have definitely headed for the wounded pup, not the husband! Hugs to you beautiful, brave Duncan!

How scary!! I've been afriad several times I was oging to kick Sadie instead of the ball..until I taught her "go deep"...now she runs out away from the ball, and I can kick it clear of her.

Hope Duncan (and Collin too) are feeling okay today.

I'm sorry to hear about Duncan, he sounds like he will be OK though, and I'm sure Collin will get over it. I've had a few similar type "accidents" with Oggy too, and it's always been me that comes out worse. Carole has always said at those times, don't say anything it was your fault. To which I reply, I know, but it still hurts. ( I tend to get a little sympathy if I readilly conceed that it was my fault. )

You're a smart man! Hopefully Collin will learn that lesson and life will be easier for him!

Oh Jennifer! I can't say I blame you for being so upset, I mean your dogs mouth was covered in blood for goodness sakes!

I'm sorry but I just had to smile when I heard that you went running to Duncan first, that would have been my instinct too. The man can take care of himself, the dog can't. It's just like going to your child first in a bad situation. So Collin shouldn't be upset with you, your doing what a good mother always does...goes to her child

I hope Dunan & Collin are feeling better today. Hugs to your Duncan boy!
