So one's fat, the other's..... not.

My darling little angel Bob is a terror when he's awake. He is always running, jumping, carrying pens away, pouncing, you name it, he'll do it. It's gotten cute really. I picked up this toy mouse on a bungee cord at a dollar store and hung it on the closet door.... He stalks all over the living room, hunting it, he'll charge over and attack and growl and spit at it, try to carry it away. It's cute as hell, and he's nice and long and sleek and muscly. Don, on the other hand, is a butterball.... He's cute too, but more in a sleep all day and all night, perpetually dopey kind of way. He runs sometimes, when's he's chasing, or being chased, by Bob, but he is getting big!!!! Any ideas on how to get his weight down while at the same time letting Bob have the same amount of food he gets now?

I love them! They are so pretty! I love white cats; their coats are so shiny.

I can't see their pictures on my computer, so you must be using Photbucket. I subscribe to an internet filtering service, and it won't let anything from Photobucket show on my computer screen. BUT, you might want to try feeding them an adult light food. I give my cat Science Diet Light Adult feline food, and she free feeds, but has been able to maintain her weight. How old are Bob and Don? If they're adults, they might both benefit from this. But you might want to check with your Vet. to be sure what is best for them.

Well, Don is 10 months old, and Bob (although after the noise he made last night he almost didn't live to see a year) is 10 1/2. We have a vet appointment for htem April 4th, I'll ask then and see what happens. Thanks!

*SMOOCHES* to those two cutie pies!
Your problem is one that happens often in a multi cat household. It's hard to give one what they need and keep it away from the other. If it were me I would do more one on one interactive play with Mr. Lazy Bones. They are still so young that I would hate to start diet food to early especially with one being so active.
Get yourself a laser light, sit back on the couch, and have a ball!! You can really get some serious activity with that!

You might want to try what my vet suggested for my butterball kitty. Hide the food in little piles around your home so that they have to actively hunt for it. Since I don't have too many hiding spots, I put the food in spots where my kitties have to jump for it.

What I do for my butterball Allen, which seems to be working, is put out the weight management for everyone. When Butterball Allen is not around, the kittens get a generous amount of "treats" (shhhh... don't tell them its regular cat food) which I dish out a few times a day. Its a bonding thing for us too... I hand feed them individual pieces. It takes half an hour or so, but I wouldn't trade treat time for the world. This way, the kittens get the additional nutrition and food they need, while Allen gets the weight control formula he needs.

PS: and added, unexpected bonus of the treat time is that they will come running when I shake the treat cup. Which has saved my sanity a few times when they hide. They come running EVERY time. Never fail. They love their treat time too
