    Why would you want to??

There are things called "Scat Mats" that you can put on your couch, and when your pup jumps on the couch, it makes a beeping noise and scares them.

Or, you can buy the clear plastic runners that have the pointed prickers thingies on the underside to keep it from moving on your carpet. Buy those and turn them upside down on your couch and it is not comfortable for the pup at all when he/she jumps up.

I know tin foil works with cats, I don't know about dogs. (them not liking the feeling)

You could try sprays they have at the pet store, my in laws have used "No" I think it was by Harts. You spray it on a rag, and put the rag where you want your animals to stay away from. Pet stores would carry a few different types of things like that.

My inlaws used to take the cushions off the couch when they would leave the house to make sure the dog was not sleeping on the couch. (she still would, there were just no cushions to sleep on!)

Or you can just do what most of us have done... and give in!

Just throw a blanket over the couch, when company comes over, take the blanket off!!

Well, actually I couldn't even imagine expecting my dogs not to be on the couch or the chairs or the Big Bed. My furniture is purchased as much for my dogs enjoyment as it is for the two humans who inhabit our household. So I'm afraid you'll get no assistance from these quarters.

My dogs are allowed on the couch too. I see you have a chihuahua, so do I. When you are gone you could use a baby gate to keep him in the kitchen or in a bathroom.

I have a scat mat that I uesd to keep my pug from jumping on my husbands desk when we weren't home. It worked great, and we no longer need to use it.

Concede defeat now. It's much easier that way!

Give up now and save yourself the stress. Dogs and couches are inevitable.

vinjashira had a good idea though.

We have new furniture and instead of trying to keep Gracie off we just throw sheets over the furniture..looks funky..but if someone comes over we can remove it. We also paid the extra to have ours protected..kind of like scotch guard but some new improved stuff and it does work well..
