One of my cats is scared also. I just put her in a kitchen chair before I start and she stays there until I get done. I then coax her back out with treats. My other cat won't even move when I vacuum. I have to go around him.
Ha! All I have to do is pull mine out and they all scatter! I do not see them until I am finished. I had a kenmore that Giz liked though and she was facinated by it and chased it as I vaccumed.

All of my "Furrykids" are afraid of the vacuum when it first comes out of the closet. Then they try to make friends with it until it is turned on, then they bolt out of the room. When they meet up with it later, their fur stands on end and they are skittish until it gets put away. They soon forget, but it is traumatic while it is happening.
I have had two cats in the past.( Simon and Amber) both who would hear the vacuum, seek me out and plop down right in front of the machine and refused to budge an inch until each had their turn being vaccumed. I never had to brush either cat, I vacuumed loose hair away .
Every other cat I have had has run from the sound of the vacuum, but these two furry oddities LOVED their personal grooming tool.
Most of my cats run away. Bubba just moves right out of reach. He feels he needs to monitor the progress of my vacuuming.![]()

My Mitzi runs and hides the moment the door to the closet where the evil vacuum monster is kept opens, even a crack. Mishi isn't as scared, but he doesn't like it.
Fister hates the vacuum cleaner, but he is so silly! As soon as he sees it, he hides under the cupboard or the bed, that means he has trapped himself, because, to get out of the room, he has to get past the vacuum cleaner. I always try to get him out in the other room first, but no way will he go, so he has to learn the hard way.![]()

Bella also hates the vacuum cleaner! She hides under the bed as soon as I pull it out from the cupboard. I always do one room at the time, and open and close door accordingly, so that she has a chance of retreating to the room I just finished.
But... if you view the problem from a slightly different angle: At least you know that your cat isn't deaf!!![]()
I once had a deaf cat, and he just loooved the vacuum cleaner! He used to sit on it as I dragged it around the apartment... He seemed to enjoy the warmth and the vibrations from the motor!

Zip and Shy are also afraid of vacuum cleaner, although Shy is to put it mildly, TERRIFIED of it...(poor thing)...i always give her fair warning because i hate to stress her too much...for Zip on the other hand, it's dump trucks...god forbid if you are holding her when one comes by, 10 claws into the flesh...feels great, really it does...![]()

ZIP and SHY R.I.P. my beautiful girls
Mine just scatter in all directions. Not a problem....they just run in all directions to get out of the way. They know the "all clear" is when that bad noise stops. :-)
