Okay,,, We are trying to get ajay together with our Lucy and Merlin,, but heres the weird part,,,,,

He will be close to Merlin on leashes kept loose,, and he growls and grumbles yet lies down and sometimes even on his side while he does it??!!! what are we to make of that??????

It's submissive behavior most likely. The dog on a lower physical level is submitting to the higher up one. Ajay may know that he's on Merlin's territory so he's behaving like a polite dog should.
If you are lucky enough to find a way of life you love, you must find the courage to live it.

kodie does that when he meets new dogs,it means that there friendly and theyre not a threat.Just give it some time and he should stop doing it soon just keep on letting them meet,i dont think he'll do anything if he's lowering himself like that

Sounds like he's being submissive in a reluctant way. Like he's saying, "ok here's my belly, but I'm still tuff".

try introducing a long rope toy into the mix.. get the more submissive dog to play tug of war with you then hand over the end your on to the less submissive dog and let them play together.. or maybe toss two balls at the same time .. some how get them in a play mood and playing weather together or by themselves but at least next to each other and at the same time.. this will help a lot for them to get aquatinted and more friendly with each-other

keep me posted on how that works .. I have more suggestions if needed
