    Poor Luna is hiding

The new year is only two and a half hours away in Germany, and people outside are already lightening lots of fire works.

Poor Luna is hiding in a dark corner for a while now, and I guess she won't come out for the rest of the night. And even Lily is getting nervous meanwhile, she looks very alert and is making big round "owl eyes". Poor girls, they don't understand what's going on! Needless to say, I'm staying with them tonight and didn't go to a New Years' party.

Hope all your kitties will feel safe and secure tonight!

Poor babies get so upset when things get out of routine. I guess it would be so confusing to see all the lights in the sky and hear all the loud popping noises of fireworks. Hang on girls, in a few hours it will all be over and things will be back to normal.

Poor girls! I hadn't considered how this will effect the kittens... I'm sure Abby will be hiding with Pouncer. Harry is "Joe Cool" and not even the vaccuum disturbs him, but I know Pouncer will be hiding in fear. I don't understand why people are compelled to light off small rockets and fireworks. they are overyl epensive, and not all that interesting. The big professional ones are worth the time and money, but you never see someone setting THOSE type off in the backayrds.

Oh, I had forgotten all about that happening. Guess I'll get to see R&R's reaction to fireworks because we have neighbors two houses down who really do it up big with lots of fireworks. It's illegal in our county but it doesn't stop anyone. We are going to a party and I probably won't be back by then. Poor kitties.

Tell Luna we all feel for her.

Yes, it did, it's the same every year! Before I moved here, it was even worse, because the people in the area where I lived before started doing fireworks right after Christmas, all day and night. Stupid people! Luna was hiding for days, she was really stressed and always got sick after that.

They probably think a war has started - or something like that!

So true, and they don't even look beautiful - and every year, accidents happen due to unproper use! I never buy any of those.

Over here, it's not illegal. Our Chancellor has asked us this year not to buy fireworks but to donate the money for the flood disaster in Asia instead. And appearantly, 30% less have been sold this year, but still enough to scare the kitties!

Poor sweet Luna. My heart goes out to the furbabies that are so scared with certain noises.

Hopefully it will be over soon so Luna can calm down.

Buddy is also very scared of fireworks. He shakes like you wouldn't believe and lays under my feet.

There is nothing you can really do until it is all over with and then just talk gently to them.

Chester has been running to the door, then running away to hide hearing all that noise around here..

I hope all dog owners have brought their dogs inside or the Animal Controll Officers will be busy Monday.. Last July 4th.. we had TONS of calls to pick up strays and a ton more from people looking for their dogs that got scared and ran... Yep, the shelters around here will be full Monday.

I just read this article.....thought I'd share it here.

Pets face new year fireworks torement

New year celebrations featuring loud fireworks will cause a night of misery for Shropshire's pets, a leading animal charity has claimed.

And moves by the RSPCA to restrict noise levels from rockets and bangers have been backed by North Shropshire District Council.

The society has just released dramatic new evidence of the distress loud fireworks caused animals on and around bonfire night this year.

And it predicts pets and wildlife will suffer similar misery during New Year's Eve firework displays and has again urged the Government to set a maximum level of 95dB for fireworks sold to the public.

North Shropshire District Council is one of 63 authorities from across the country which has signed an RSPCA certificate calling for the Fireworks Regulations 2004 to be amended so they would have the power to set a maximum noise level for fireworks in their area.

Shocking images of animals trembling and cowering under or behind furniture have been sent to the society by pet owners.

They were responding to an RSPCA appeal for members of the public to film or photograph their pets on and around bonfire night to show the Government the distress loud fireworks cause animals.

The RSPCA's chief veterinary adviser Tim Miles said: "We have had a huge response from the public which shows that loud fireworks are still a big problem for pets and their owners.

"The footage and photographs will be sent to Tony Blair as evidence of the distress caused by loud fireworks

Thanks for posting the article, it's interesting! I'm glad that there are people aware of the problem, and that first steps have been done to maybe find a solution for animals one day.

New Year meant in fact huge stress for poor Luna, and she still suffers from it. She's still nervous and very scared, you can tell it from the way she's walking and moving. And she's very exhausted, I don't think she got any sleep last night.

Funny thing is, it seemed like Lily was trying to comfort her or encourage her. The last hours before midnight, Luna spend sitting on a certain spot in the living room, almost paralyzed with fear. Lily was sitting on a little cabinet, looking at her, and both of them kept eye-contact all the time. It was almost as if they were communicating in a non-verbal way; seemed to me Lily kind of "held" Luna by just looking at her. It's been truly amazing!
