Icarus is not well

For those who don't know, my rat Icarus had a tumor removed a couple of months ago. Well, it's grown back, except this time it isn't in a part where they can operate. I figured that I would wait until it got too big, and then see if they can atleast TRY to remove it, and if not I would have to put him to sleep.

Well yesterday he started peeing mucus and his scrotum turned blue. Those were Frisco's last symtoms the very day I put him to sleep. What if this is some weird disease that is plaguing my rats? The vet said he had never heard of mucus in the urine when I took Frisco in.

I am making an appointment for the vet to see Icarus. Please pray that there is something that can be done. I've lost three pets this year...this would just kill me. Oliver and Tobias look up to Icarus so much..they would be so devastated if he died.

Also if he does have to be put down, it would be for the best. You wouldent want him to suffer, so maybe it is just his time..

The vet told me that they can't do any kind of surgery unless there is a biopsy done on the big tumor. Luckily, they still have the tumor that they removed a couple months ago, so they can do the biopsy on that one and I won't have to pay the lab fee. But the vet removed two tumors that day, and the replacement vet didn't know which was which, so he has to ask my vet when he gets back on Wednesday. He said that Icarus's tumor looks blue because it is probably very red, and red things look blue through skin, kind of like our veins. Icarus is now picking at the tumor on his belly..I'm not too sure what to do about that. So hopefully things will be worked out on Wednesday, and then he can have his surgery.

My vet came back early, and called me yesterday. He wants to check Icarus out today. Unfortunatly neither of the tumors he has in the back room are Icarus's, so I'll have to pay the full lab fee for the biopsy...it's over $100. Eee. He doesn't think that we'll be able to remove the entire tumor..and he says even if we do, it will probably grow back considering how fast and aggressive it grew back before..

I will try getting it removed one last time. If it grows back, I'll let it grow until it gets out of hand...and then I'll put him to sleep.

We decided not to go ahead with the surgery. Icarus has maybe a week or two to live until I put him to sleep. I'm going to have a horrible Christmas this year.
