    Air licking?

Teeko has been licking, what seems to be the air, since late Friday night. He vomited once, Friday, but is acting like his regular self, playful, energetic, looking for treats, etc. Every once in a while though, he will start licking. I don't know what it's caused from, it's as if he ate too much peanut butter and it's stuck to the roof of his mouth. (but he hasn't had any) It's a little tiresome after a while, especially when I'm trying to get some sleep and he's doing that practically right in my ear.

Just wondering if anyone knows what it may be caused from? I checked the interior of his mouth, didn't find anything.

I have seen Smokey do that also. It's usually something stuck
around his tooth. You might check the roof of his mouth too.
Sometimes it's just a stray piece of thread, or a piece of grass.

I don't want to scare you, but if you notice any other strange behavior, I'd make an appointment with your vet. Aneko (RB Shih Tzu) did this for a long time. She was having seizures and we didn't know it. I felt so bad once we found out, because Hubby had scolded her for it a couple of times. It was annoying us a LOT, and we had no idea why she was doing it.

It started as air licking, and progressed to something that was an obvious seizure. When we spoke with the vet about the seizure she had (moving her head back and forth, with it held back almost against her back), he told us the air licking had been smaller seizures. It may not be what Teeko's doing, but I'd surely keep and eye on him.

I hope it's not at all what it is with him. Please keep us updated.

Could there be something stuck between his teeth? Millie has this one spot in the back of her mouth where food always gets stuck.

I'll have another, closer look tonight. Thanks for your replies, I'll be sure to keep you updated. It wasn't so bad last night, he did it for a few minutes before falling asleep, practically slept through the night, the only time he woke up was to get on top of the covers then back under them, then a little this morning before I left for work.

    Check what chewing on

May want to check if the dog isn't chewing on something. My dogs will pick up things from the carpet including confetti. It is soo small I can't see it. Sometimes they will chew their rawhides to the point you can't see as well.
I would definetely make sure something isn't hanging in it's throat. Could be something attached to a string that may lead to it's stomach. I saw a story with dog that swallowed a fish hook. The string was still hanging out it'st mouth! They took a scope and removed it and the dog lived. Your vet may chose to take a scope and explore. Good luck!

He's ok, he's stopped the licking. I'm still going to keep an eye on him for the next few days to be sure, but so far so good.
