    Raustyk's having kidney trouble

Got a hold of the vet last night, after playing phone tag all day. Turns out her bloodwork is not so good, she didn't even really want to talk over the phone but due to the time she kind of had to.

The 2 levels that she is most concerned about is her BUN which is 49 & Creatinine is 1.9.

A few others were slightly off, but she said she would explain more in detail when we go back tomorrow.

The next step is to do a urine sample and possibly another cbc when she is properly fasted.
Since Raustyk is not improving (and the fact she went through a 4 year period where she had UTI's literally one after another & her BUN level has never been normal in 4.5 years) if those come out good, or the cbc is the same and the sample is good then we are going in for an ultra sound.

Poor girl is just not improving, I feel so bad for her.

Has anyone had experienced this or anything similar? If so what was done?

I doubt it is a UTI as she no symptoms that she had w/ all the other UTI's & the vets have been saying for years that her kidneys are not that good.
Soar high & free my sweet fur angels. I love you Nanook & Raustyk... forever & ever.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear this I've had experience with UTI in dogs, but no expereince with kidney disease in dogs. Is this the same vet that treated her previous UTI's? Usually a urinalysis can rule out a UTI; did they ask you drop off a sample right away? Hopefully you can get the repeat blood work done asap and get some answers. Are you sure she's not having any trouble urinating/having blood in her urine? You mentioned her being in pain the other day and sometimes UTIs and definitely bladder and kidney stones, can cause much discomfort. I definitely think an ultrasound would give you the most definite answer. I'll be keeping your precious Raustyk in my prayers and keeping my fingers crossed for a quick diagnosis and swift recovery! Please keep us updated. HUGS to you Raustyk! Sandra, Cody and Star

I appreciate your prayers. And although we are dropping of a urine sample asap, 7:30 tomorrow morning, as well as repeat blood work, I doubt it is a uti, she has had litterally at about 50 in her first 4.5 years with me and she is showing not one single symptom that she showed before. Because of that I am not keeping my hopes up.

Last yesr she had another UTI (the first in 1.5 years) & then she had a few cbc's done, each one a couple months apart & still her BUN was way high, but never over 41.

I was told then that she probably had permanant kidney damage, possibly cancer in the future due to other blood tests results.

thank you so much for your concern & comments.

Oh dear Please try and stay positive, as hard as that is. It might be a kidney infection (do you know the white cell count/was it elevated?) or pyelonephritis. Let's not think of cancer yet She may need to be put on a Rx diet for kidney patients. I'll be thinking of you and Raustyk and anxiously awaiting an update tomorrow. LOTS of hugs and kisses to you dear Raustyk. Sandra
