    Sad songs for a funeral

Does anyone know of an sad songs that would be appropriate for a funeral??

My friend's Grandpa passed away a few days ago, and her Mom asked that she find a song for the funeral, and then she asked for my help. I told her I'd make a CD of several songs, to help her out. So far I have:

    I Will Remember You-Sarah McLachlan
    Tears From Heaven-Eric Claption
    Wind Beneath My Wings-Bette Midler
My Heart Will Go On-Celiene Dion
I Will Always Love You-Whitney Houston
    Time To Say Goodbye-Sarah Brightman

... Any suggestions would be a great help, thanks!

I don't know if you are interested in Christian music titles, but an awesome funeral song is "If You Could See Me Now" by Truth. A good country one is "Go Rest High on That Mountain" by Vince Gill.

    Thanks!

I was able to find "Go Rest High on That Mountain" but I'm not having any luck finding "If You Could See Me Now".

I can't think of any right now, but if I do I'll post them. My friend wants "spirit in the sky" by Norman Greenbaum played at her funeral. That's probably not something you are looking for though.

Oh, yes ... that is a beautiful song.
"We give dogs the time we can spare, the space we can spare and the love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made" - M. Facklam

"We are raised to honor all the wrong explorers and discoverers - thieves planting flags, murderers carrying crosses. Let us at last praise the colonizers of dreams."- P.S. Beagle

"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king." - J.R.R. Tolkien

When I go here's what I want to hear:

    Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

I have the perfect song. Everytime I hear it I want to start crying. It's such a heart breaker.

    Please Remember-by LeAnn Rimes
Time, sometimes the time just slips away
    And your left with yesterday
    Left with the memories
I, I'll always think of you and smile
And be happy for the time
    I had you with me
Though we go our separate ways
    I won't forget so don't forget
    the memories we made

    Please remember, please remember
    I was there for you
and you were there for me
    Please remember, our time together
When time was yours and mine
and we were wild and free
    Please remember, please remember me

Goodbye, there's just no sadder word to say
And it's sad to walk away
    with just the memories
Who's to know what might have been
We leave behind a life and time
    We'll never know again

    Please remember, please remember
    I was there for you
and you were there for me
    And remember, Please remember me

    Please remember, please remember
    I was there for you
And you were there for me
    Please remember, our time together
The time was yours and mine
and we were wild and free
    Then remember, please remember me

    And how we laughed
    and how we smiled
And how this world was yours and mine
and how no dream was out of reach
I stood by you, you stood by me
We took each day and made it shine
We wrote our names across the sky
We ran so fast, we ran so free
And I had you and you had me

    Please remember, please remember

GREAT song, slick. We had that as background music on my grandparents 50th anniversary video that was a slide show of all the grandkids, kids, etc.'s pictures.... It makes me want to cry just thinking about ever losing my grandparents. I'm such an emotional person.

The song "The Dance" by Garth Brooks is a good one.

Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars alone
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye

    And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain

But I'd of had to miss the dance

    Holding you I held everything
    For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have chanced it all

    And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain

But I'd of had to miss the dance

Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd of had to miss the dance

Amazing Grace is a good one and always makes me cry, ESPECIALLY if it's played on bagpipes!

The Dance is wonderful as well!

    Salisbury Hill

    Peter Gabriel

    Climbing up on Salisbury Hill
I could see the city lights
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night
    He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
    Standing, stretching every nerve
I had to listen had no choice
I did not believe the information
    Just had to trust imagination
My heart going boom boom boom
Son, he said, grab your things I've come to take you home

To keep in silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
    Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut
So I went from day to day
Though my life was in a rut
Till I thought of what I'd say
And which connection I should cut
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
Son, he said, grab your things I've come to take you home

    yeaah, back home

    When illusion spin her net
I'm never where I want to be
    And liberty she pirouette
When I think that I am free
    Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes but still can see
    No one taught them etiquette
So I will show another me
    Today I don't need a replacement
I'll tell them what the smile on my face meant
My heart going boom boom boom
Hey, I said, you can keep my things they've come to take me home

I am sorry about your grandfather. I love to hear Amazing Grace at funerals. It is such a beautiful song. Jeez, I can't think of anything else. It's 4:30am I am not awake yet. I should be a funeral expert by now.

    Thank you Wolfie!
