What do cats usually get tested for?

I hear alot of people talking about that their cats were "negative"..etc, And I was wondering what they were talking about?

As if we adopt Hilda tomorrow, since I don't know her story or past history, is there certain things she should get tested for?

    Thanks

I know ppl are talking about FIV. We just take our cats to get checked and their shots, but they didn't do any tests that I know about anyways, maybe they did they took blood before I dunno they never told me...
Anyways ask the humane society tomorrow what you should do they will know whats she's had or hasn't had... or call the vet... Good luck anyways!! Hope all goes well...

oh I think FIV is HIV for cats dunno though. I know it attacks theit immune system, hope this helps a bit

Typically they are tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline Aids. I would definitely have her tested for those before allowing her to have any contact with Tigger. Better safe than sorry.

Okay thanks I'll ask the vet about it!

Do you mean before she even comes in the house? Or just before they meet?

Before direct contact with other cats. So, if you have mutiple cats I would test before they are brought into the house. If cat is brought into the house before testing, separate the cat from others (in another room) until tests are done.

You can test them for lots of things, but typical is the FIV/FELV test. You can also request an FIP test, if you're concerned about that.
