    Baby Bunny

First of all, let me get this out of my system---SCREAM! Okay, now I feel better.

I am looking for some information on caring for a newborn baby bunny and its mother. The rabbit in another classroom at the daycare center gave birth to two babies yesterday. One was stillborn, but the other seems healthy. The teacher who caused all of this (the one with daddy rabbit) is no longer at the center. (I really can't believe that she thought this was a good idea.) No one at the center knows anything about taking care of newborn baby rabbits. I know they have tried to move the cage to a quieter location where the children won't disturb mom and baby. Does anyone have any advice or links to good websites? Any help would be appreciated.

If the mom bunny is doing a good job caring for the baby, this might not be needed. But if you have any doubts you might want to step in and care for the baby yourself. I searched in google and this is what I found...

I'll try to find more. You might want to call your vet and just see what they have to say on the situation. Good luck and keep me posted!

Moving everything to a quietr spot for a few weeks, and making sure the mom has plenty of good, nutritious food is probably all you need to do for now, unless the bunny isn't seeming like a capable mom.

It seems like chrissycat and Karen offered some good advice. Thankfully buns usually know how to care for their babies, so as long as it looks like she's doing ok there really isn't much to do. In fact I think sometimes the less you try to do the better because then mom doesn't get stressed out. Just make sure she's in a quiet area where she won't be disturbed too much, and that she has a nesting box with something soft in there for her and the baby.

Thanks for the great signature Kay!

Thanks for the advice. I haven't had a chance to look at the links yet, but I'll do that in minute. They have been trying to find a quieter place for her. (A room full of two-year olds isn't exactly quiet.) Hopefully, instinct has taken over for Trix (mom bunny). I'll keep you posted.

I hope everything goes well! I'm sure a room full of 2 year olds isn't quite...Just make sure they aren't near any things that has that weird smell, like cleaners, paints, and car exaust. I read that its bad for them.

    Thanks for keeping us posted!

The baby bunny did not make it. It looks like the mother accidentally suffocated it. (She put it under the piece of cardboard that was in the cage and then sat on it. It looks like she was trying to keep it warm.)
