    Atlantic City Cats

I was reading my local paper this morning and was struck by some pictures of feral kitties. They live under Atlantic City's boardwalk and are being cared for by a small group of caregivers. It's a nice story about some really special people.

I think it's really great that there are people and organizations out there that are doing all they can to help the cats in their area. When I moved to San Jose, I came across an organization that is in conjunction with Ally Cat Allies. It's located in Morgan Hill and it's called Town Cats. They have a feral cat program where volunteers feed and water feral cat colonies. I take care of 2 such colonies. Our organization does the trap/spay or neuter/release/maintain line of action. Sometimes kittens are brought in from these feral colonies and are kept at the shelter in hopes of socializing them with people and then adopting them into homes. We are a no kill non profit org. Check us out!

That's a good site Wolflady. There's lots of information there and of course some nice shots of some real cuties waiting for homes. Thank you for being a part of such an outreach. You must feel very blessed to play a part in some of the happy endings!

    Thanks Pam
It is a really neat feeling when one of our cats gets adopted. We do all we can to get our cats out into the public eye by holding pet adoptions every weekend and also by having some of our cats available at the Petsmarts and the Pet Stops throughout the San Jose area.
All of the kitties are just so cute I wish I could take them all home sometimes! It is definitely a rewarding experience. I also do some volunteer work at the wildlife center of Silicon Valley which is also neat and a new road of info for me. Being a "squirrel mom" is definitely a neat experience

There was an article in my local paper, the Fort Worth Star Telegram, that I wanted to post a link to here when I first read it, but alas they only have their final edition articles on the web, and I can only get the Northeast Tarrant County edition delivered, and this article was evidently only in the Northeast edition. Well, I soon forgot about it, but these stories remind me again of it. So! I will have to summarize! But basically, it was relating the story of several feral cats who live in a park just north of downtown. Several people had been feeding them, and one guy had even built a little shelter for them. Then someone wrote in a letter to the editor, saying, in effect, well it's nice those cats are so well-fed, that means they will be even more able to reproduce and spread disease. Well, that lit fires under several butts, and next thing you know several of the rescue groups, humane groups, and area veterinarians converge with humane traps, capture every known cat, spay and neuter and vaccinate them, and re-release them to their downtown park, where they are all once again living happily ever after.

It's really great to see people reach out to the stray and feral population like that. In Cat Fancy, there is a section dedicated to people who go out of their way to help cats, and it's just great to read all of the stories. This reminded me of one of those stories. They are all so touching!
