    Poor Socks

Just heard on the news that Socks will not be moving with the Clintons when they leave the White House. He will become the pet of President Clinton's secretary. Hope he doesn't find out that they are taking Buddy, the dog. Poor socks.

I didn't realize Ernie was orange and white. Trevor will probably start watching CNN! Up til now it's been Animal Planet for him.

Good links Spencer. Loved the "Socks Interviews Ernie" part! It's a shame that Ernie will not get to live in the White House either, but maybe he'll get to visit from time to time.

    As told by "Rascal"........

Who would want to live in the White House anyway? You are followed around all day by Secret Service men. You would never get a chance to SPRAY ANYTHING!!!

It's pretty evident why Socks is going with Ms. Currie- the Clintons will virtually never be home, and Chelsea will unlikely ever live at either house, either. While he was at the White House, these situations never came into play, because the White House is full of staff 24 hours a day, even if the entire Firts Family is absent. Obviously, from the stories, Ms. Currie became attached to Socks, so it is really the very best thing for him. I seldom advocate abandoning your pets, but sometimes it really is in the pet's best interest, and this is probably very true in Socks' case.

Ernie's story upsets me though, especially since there are fewer details. I wish I knew more about it.

Orange tabby lovers do not miss these links that Spencer has found. Faux Paw (Governor Leavitt's kitty) is absolutely precious. He is a cat with a wardrobe! (wears a cute little sweater).

Too bad Mr. Rogers (of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood) never had a kitty wearing a sweater on his show. They could have both changed into sweaters at the start of the program. Would have made a nice touch for the children!

One of my co-workers (who knows I like cats/animals) has just given me a 2001 calendar that he didn't want -- a Democratic National Committee 2001 Calendar titled, "First Pets and Their Families". Democrat pets only! It's a really cute calendar. The cover shows that photo of First Cat, Socks, on top of a podium in the White House press room. The calendar also includes photos of FDR and good ol' Fala; Amy Carter and her Siamese cat, "Misty Malarkey Ying Yang" as well as her puppy "Grits"; Jackie Kennedy with little Caroline and two kittens; Harry Truman's puppy, "Feller"; etc. My favorite, though, has to be Socks posing on the podium. Very, very adorable and handsome cat.

Maybe President-Elect Bush will truly be a uniter, not a divider, as he says and we will see a pet calendar come out with both Democratic pets and Republican pets in the future.

Yep! You got it, Chuck! That's the Socks photo! Ha! Yes, it's just a monthly calendar, no "Daleys" involved! .......Yes, Pam, I would like to see a bipartisan presidential pet calendar in the future!

Do you know what is missing on Socks in his picture? Don't you think he deserved a little "Presidential Seal" name tag?

    Thanks for sharing it.

I too heard this story on the news last night and I have to admit it seems a little unfair that he's planning to keep Buddy and evict Socks; Socks was there first! But lucky cat to live in the White House for 8 years. thank you for posting the beautiful photos!
