Been a while since I've been on here.

Here's a picture of my aunt's cat Dusty



She is really cute, but very skittish for whatever reason. If she was my cat, I would be very upset about this. In my opinion, its an arguement against adopting non-kittens. Even though she's only six months old, she seems set in her ways and won't adjust to being loved.

In other news, remember the fiasco with me asking my condo owner if I could have a cat, and then being threatened by the managing company? Well I told the condo owner about the whole thing, and my roommates told her some of their stories of mistreatment by the managing company, and now she's dropped them. As of the end of her current contract with them (july) we will be independant of them.

This opens the possibility that I could even get what I really want - a chihuahua. I asked her via email but she hasn't responded yet. Wish me luck!

DNova - what a beautiful baby. My Frisco (blue point Siamese) is also very, very skittish and I've had him since he was 12 weeks old. I'll never know why he is the way he is because he's known nothing but love and affection since I brought him into my home 5 years ago. He just refuses to be loved, however he'll put up with a little petting once in a while. When I pick him up, he stiffens up like a board and cowers when I bend down to pet him. The lady I bought him from can't understand it either. As far as your Condo problems - read my posts in "Im in Trouble with the Law - I can relate big time!!!!

By the way - I bought my new Chi puppy last month. What a sweetheart, but be careful these little guys are really high spirited and a little nippy, could be a problem around little children.

Hi Don, welcome back!
Dusty is beautiful! How long has your aunt had her? I'm asking because sometimes it takes a while for a cat to adjust to being in a new home. I think it's great that your aunt took in a kitty that is a little older (even though at six months, she is technically still a kitten).
I adopted my cat, Elvis in August. He was very difficult. We think that he may have been abused and/or abandoned in the past, and we know that he lived on the streets for a while. From day one, Elvis loved to sit in people's laps, but he didn't like to be touched or loved. He would bite and scratch sometimes. He had serious trust issues, and I was afraid he would never calm down. With a lot of patience and love, however, I have been able to show him that nobody is going to hurt him anymore and that he can start to trust. I am amazed at the progress he has made and continues to make. He will always be a tough guy, but he no longer bites or scratches me and sometimes he even lets me rub his tummy. He is very affectionate.
My point is that Dusty may just need a little time and a lot of patience. Some cats are just skittish by nature, but I think that they do tend to calm down when they get used to their new surroundings and to the new people in their lives. It may take months, but Dusty may slowly begin to come out of her shell soon. Just remember that it takes time, but it will be well worth it.

Welcome back D! Dusty is so lovely. Hopefully with a litte more time and a lot of loving and patience, she will come around I have had skittish kitties in the past who, after a while, made a complete turn around! Kisses and headbutts to precious Dusty!

Dnova, thanks for sharing the picture of your furkid. I particularly like the gray spot on her nose. If she is skiddish, perhaps she will come out of it after a while. But oftimes, as has been done with my skiddish kittens, just keep loving her, and giving her special treats. Usually they begin to come around by allowing you to pet them and then later to rub their tummy. After that, they sometimes they will allow you to pick them up, but not to carry to another location. That comes much later. As long as it is understood that a cat makes friends on their terms... She is too beautiful of a kitty not to allow you to pet her. Best of wishes and luck with her.

I've always been fascinated by feline purrrsonalities...this kitty reminds me of a cat a friend of mine had - the pastel calico - she was SO friendly I worried that she would get into trouble. I would go outside on the deck and little kitty would jump up into my arms for cuddles, another similarly marked cat was definitely "look but don't touch".

I've learned with Ritz that she is affectionate on her own terms - but when she is, it is just "no holds barred"...cuddles up next to me at night and purrs, exposing tummy...you name it. It is their independent nature that I love.

Show us a picture of the rattlesnake tail! Sounds intriguing!
