    New foster dogs!

Mac and Ozzy made their debut in Wandering Spirits Kennels tonight. They were supposed to be here a couple weeks ago, but then Pacer got beat up and I needed to focus on him. Now that he's healed up, these two timid boys have joined the pack. They are in the new pen with Pacer tonight. They are having far too much fun running and playing to pose for pics but I did manage to get a few!

They are very close to each other--they even drink together!

Ozzy running his long legs off!

Mac didn't really want to stop for a pic but this is him exploring his new digs.

And Mac checking out my chair...I keep a lawn chair in each dog run so I can just hang out in them sometimes.

    Welcome to the pack, boys!

Littermates. They'll be a year old on June 30.

They are hound-husky crosses, bred by a musher who runs sprint races.

What I plan to do with them is kinda complicated....they are here as fosters, but unlikely that they will be leaving any time soon as they are very timid. They were not doing well in the shelter.

As very young puppies they had a reaction to their puppy shots. Their breeder (and I use the term loosely) decided that their hearts had been damaged and they would never be able to run in harness. I think she just wanted to get rid of them. I can see no sign that they have heart damage. They run and play like normal young Alaskan Huskies. No sign of fatigue or shortness of breath. The local vet says their heart sound perfectly normal, but he can't do more sophisticated testing on them. So....my decision was do I continue to let them waste away in their cages and live their lives in fear or bring them here, let them run and see what happens...

I've decided that eventually they will run in harness for me. I'll watch them very closely for any sign of distress and if they do show any, they'll be pets only. However, I think they will do just fine. In any case, the shelter director and I discussed it and agreed that it would be better for them to live shorter, happy lives than long, miserable ones in the shelter.
