What is this?

Pieper is a small-boned, slight slip of a cat...short, slick, very shiny black hair, long, long legs and a nice shaped head very much like a Bombay...although I don't know her lineage...

Here's my question...below each ear, but above her eyes, you can see her scalp...we tease her about being bald, but she isn't...she has hair there, it's just very sparce...does this sound familiar to anyone? It's always been that way...I keep telling her to quit washing her face...she's wearing holes in her skin...but she just gazes at me and keeps right on...LOL..any ideas?

Hi Pieper's Mom!

My black guy, Jet, has the same thing. He is also slim and very tall, with short hair. I also do not know his lineage, but he is not purebred. (His 2 brothers were long haired - one grey and one black.) My grey female cat also has this. I have heard that this is not an uncommon thing in Siamese type cats. I strongly suspect that my grey female, Foggy, has Siamese in her- the Siamese meouw - but I do not know for sure about Jet.

Hi, Dogncatluvr....thanks for the input...I volunteer at the local shelter and I saw two blackies this weekend, similar to my Pie and your Jet so had the same "baldness"...I think I'll do a little more research into this and see what I come up with...yes, she could have some Siamese in her...she sure does have a mouth on her! LOL!

I have yet to have a cat without these spots.. I always thought God put them there so you didn't get so much fur in your mouth when you kissed them.. seriously.. I believe the fur is sparcer infront of the ears for a purpose.. I think it helps direct sounds better than thick fur.. but keep unwanted bugs and things out...I know one thing.. cats sure like to be masauged (excuse spelling) in that spot...

I have a two pure bread siamese cats! One flame point and one chocolate! I have a Huge black cat with a white spot on his chest, and a tabby cat! Their names are Fong Sang (means happy life in chinesse) Sassy, Black, and Tiger! They all have that marking on them!

Bloomer, I think you are right about both things...great kissing spots AND I'll bet it does help them hear better...our Maine Coon doesn't have that, but then he has so much hair everywhere, maybe he's the exception!
