Newbie with a question

Hi everyone!

I've been lurking here for a few weeks so I thought I would introduce my boys.



This is Ritchi & Sammi. It's hard to tell, but there are two cats there snuggling together.

My husband and I adopted them in February after our beloved cat of ten years died of cancer. She was the love of our lives. Luckily, we found two special brothers to fill our hearts with love. They are litter mates and are five years old. They adore each other (as you can tell) and they adore us.

Anyway my question is this; the Little Guy(TM) just wont stop talking and running around the house. He's been doing it all week and it's driving me crazy. He just meows and meows and then takes off and runs up and down the hallway. We have hardwood floors so you can imagine the noise. The Big Guy(TM) doesn't seem to do it. Just Ritchi. Is he just nutty or could there be something wrong with him.

I was going to say posible urinary infection/blockage, but if he's been doing it all week he'd probably be very sick by now. It probably wouldn't hurt to have it checked at the vet. The reason I guessed that is because when my late kitty Boo had a blockage he ran up and down the hall meowing, going back and forth to the litterbox. I think he was telling me something was wrong, but I was too stupid to pick up on it. I did manage to pick up on his hints in time to bring him to the vet's and get him unblocked, but I wish I would have recognized the signs sooner - I feel bad for not noticing right away that something was wrong.

Some kitties arejust naturally talkative, but if you think it is abnormal it might be something to get checked out.

Some kitties are just very talkative. My Smokey talks, and talks, and talks....he could put a person to sleep except his meow is very whinny and loud. Smokey is a very needy kitty...meaning he needs attention, and loving if he does not get enough he will continue to either meow or he will follow you everywhere.

If you think there is something wrong, then by all means call and speak with your vet. It never hurts to ask and NO question about our babies is ever dumb as far as I'm concerned.

What's the weather like where you are? I ask cause lately there have been a few more small bugs in our place cause of the warm weather and it's causing many a strange mew and running fiascos as they hunt. I was thinking if it's warming up, it could be Ritchi is seeing maybe tiny gnats or bugs now that summer is hitting.... - or have there been any changes in your house lately? moving of furniture, new furniture, maybe new company - anything like that. We moved recently and Wilber has been meowing and running away - I think it's cause they are adjusting still.

Re. Your noisy boy, I would get him checked out at the vets as suggested but it might be just the joys of summer.

I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you. Maybe Ritchie is just happy to have a home of his own. I love kitties that talk. Your babies look so cute together.

can be happy or distressed. I am sure you can tell the differance! I have older cats that don't much play but every now and then get frisky for a while and act totally goofy- and I know their happy yowls ( one is doing it right now because I let them out in the hall for a run- it's a catter-waul sp? of sorts...). Anyway, distressed cry is pretty obvious and a block in urinary tract would include several visits to the litter box to squat for long periods and dig for long periods. the males feel like they have to go all the time- It's probably so uncomfortable (and it can kill them pretty quickly I was told - males are "special" that way!).

Just watch for signs of what might be setting him off. Kitties do get the 'crazies' now and then. Especially if it's a certain time of day (or night) it might just be 'crazies'.

Welcome to PT! Richi and Sammy are so handsome! Our cat, Fister 8 years old, has been talking more recently, but I think it's because spring is here - and also because he wants a brushing session. Every afternoon, he starts meowing constantly, but as soon as he's had a good brushing, or cuddle, he takes a nap and keeps quiet - until he wants us to come to bed.

He certainly wants to tell you something, and if you're not sure what it is, you better get him checked at the vet.

I think he's just lovey dovey for some reason. He's not been this way since we adopted him in February so I was worried.

Seems all he wants is love. Who doesn't!
