9/11 Commission hearings.

I am sorry, but freedom of speech sometimes makes me really mad.

I just heard a small radio clip from a woman who
attended today's hearing and held a sign that said "LIES", while the former NYFD commisioner testified.


Her son, a member of the NYFD was killed on 9/11.

She was at the hearings trying to find out why her
son was sent into the WTC before it collapsed.

I understand her pain-but why can't she get it thru her head that there was no way that anyone could have predicted those buildings would collapse? Why isn't her anger directed toward the morons who pulled this off?

She insinuated that her son's death was the fault of the NYFD brass for sending him into the building. I am sure that any FD Commander would have given the order for those firefighters to evacuate, if they knew the building was going to collapse.

I don't understand people sometimes.

Knowing the character and drive required to be a firefighter, I would be surprised if anyone could have kept the firefighters out of the building in the first place, regardless of the possibility of collapse.

I know a few firefighters and I know that they would have gone into that building to try to save people even if the top brass said NOT to! What that woman is doing is trashing the reputation of her son by saying that HE wouldn't have tried to help people if his supiriors hadn't told him to go in. Stupid....

Richard, I am not defending the woman...but, I can sympathize with her anger/blaming. She needs an outlet, an identifiable target...and NYPD seems to be it. Maybe in time she will see it differently, but, for now....it seems appropriate to her.

Oh, I agree she has the right to blame the NYFD-it's a target with substance.

Could it be becuase there are no terrorists to blame?

It's done and it's part of life. I really object to putting on a show for the commission and blaming the NYFD, PA and PD for something that had never happened before.

She probably keeps reliving the fact that there was no disaster plan in place for a plane/skyscraper/terrorist attack, radios and cell phones weren't working and 911 calls were being put on hold.

Wouldn't a donation to a fund, purchasing a GOOD radio or two for the department, or becoming an advocate for public safety be a better alternative than to sitting in a hearing room rehashing your son's death???

The two men who have been the spokesmen, for the most part, on this whole evaluation, from separate political parties, have been a breath of fresh air to me, completely unbiased, and so focused on what we can do to avoid something like 9/11 in the future. That seems to be their goal. They do not succomb to the questioning from Matt Lauer and others who want to place blame for the past. Thank goodness we seem to have an impartial committee in place, for once. If the whole thing ends up helping for future terrorist actions, it will be worth it. I just hope that politics won't get in the way of true progress on protection for the American people.

I'm sad it's come to this. It seems to be a part of the American psyche to have to blame someone for everything. The terrorists are to blame in this case and the anger is misdirected but more visible than the swine that commited this act.
It's unfortunate that "blame" has to be place to anything for McDonald's being blamed for overly hot coffee place on the lap in a MOVING object to something as tragic as this terrible loss. Sometimes bad things happen.

Today during Rudy Guiliani's testimony regarding the FD orders to evacuate.....

He stated that some firefighter's ignored the order to evacuate, in order to help people out of the area.


During that time a woman jumped up amd yelled out, "The radios, talk about the radios......."


I guess this woman has never driven thru a tunnel while listening to the radio, or hit a 'dead air spot' while on her cellular.


I wonder what she'd say if there was another terrorist attack and the authorities would hesitate to assist anyone because they had to check their radios....


Batteries, check.

Now lightening will probably strike me but.....I agree with Richard on this one (putting aside all the hyperbole.)

I just don't think 9/11 was something you could plan for. As a nation we seem fixated on it. Blame this and blame that. It was horrendous. Let's learn what we can learn and then move on.
