Well, the way I'm doing it with Finn is teaching him to bark when I ask him to, and, he's getting that pretty well. And, then, teaching him to "shh", which he's actually learning that way! He started barking while he was playing with the cat this morning, and, I put my finger to my mouth and told him to shhh...and, he stopped! It's still being trained, though, so, it doesn't work all the time.

    Thanks, Dogz!

It depends on your dog. One of my dogs loves to bark. He will ignore everything else around him when he barks. Saying "No!" to him wouldn't have any affect on him at all so I squirt him with water instead. I also say "Good quiet!" when he stops. It seems to be working because I want him to be able to bark now and then but when I say "quiet!" he'll stop (only when he's inside..when he's outside, it's a different story ).

We have just been going through barking dogs that got into the habit of non stop barking. And so we bought dog barking collars that make a noise and used those on them and then we also have been saying NO BARK! They don't like the collars and so they learned very quickl to not bark. If we see they are going to run out just to bark we will say to them NO BARK very firmly to them. And if they are barking outside, we say NO BARK. and if they continue we will say do you want the collar and the male stops right away. We also do it when are driving and they start up, we say NO BARK. We are happy how fast they are learning.

Huey never barks. If he sees another dog or any people near our house he actually cries because he wants to go play with them.

One exception though... One day I was just sitting inside the house and I heard this dog barking over and over, and I was wondering who's dog is that? So finally I go outside to see what dog is barking and realize it is Huey! I was so shocked. There were some people in the woods by our house (a grandma and her grandkids looking for a tree to climb) and he was barking at them. I was embarassed that my dog had been barking like that and I didn't do anything about it. But I swear I had never heard him bark like that before or since that one time.
