Pictures of my poor, abused sled dogs...

Sleet, my lead dog, my first real working dog, the dog who taught me everything I know I about sled dogs. She's ten years old now and she's slowed down alot. But she still wants to pull. She trains my younger dogs for me. She gets right mad if I leave her at home too often--won't come to me, cuddles up to my husband, ect. She is my soulmate dog and the day she leaves this world she will take my heart with her.

Kayleigh, yup, she's kept on a tether when she's not with me. She's dog aggressive and for the most part would rather fight than play with another dog. Put her in a harness and tell her she can pull, she'll run beside anyone without a hint of aggression.

Pacer and Antare. Both so timid when they arrived here that they couldn't be handled. Put them in a harness, let them do what they were bred to do and Voila--confident, happy dogs!

Preacher taken earlier today. He's what Glickman would call a culled dog--he's not allowed to pull anymore. He's old, he's blind his hips are getting stiff. He'd pull till he dropped if I let him. Instead, he's a house dog with his own cushy bed, lots of treats, special food and he gets to play like a puppy when the urge strikes him. Looks miserable, doesn't he?

Poor sad Chase, again taken this afternoon. Hmm, a husky who's reliable off his leash, comes back like a lab everytime he is called and looks happy doing it. Yup, I must beat him. He will also pull for miles without hesitation!

This one was taken in February of this year. It's about 15 miles into a day trip run. Notice the dogs are checking things out around them, not one of them laid down to rest, their tails are up and wagging, their ears are up. I almost lost the sled taking this picture cuz they didn't feel like stopping for long and starting tugging or harness banging as it's called.

I could post all day--pics of them with toys, on their houses, on the couch, playing, happy dogs!

Geez, you're a terrible dog owner. They really do look beat down. *sarcasm for anyone who doesn't get it*

Great photos of those poor abused dogs of yours. My friends dogs are so abused too all 70 of them. They are so abused that there is never a poop pile around the yard and the 75lbs of food a day is just a waste of food.

Seriously I love the pictures of your kids they are more uniformly matched than Jeffs dogs(freind) he takes any part malamute, huskey, and sled dog breeds or wolf and coyote mixes the pound has that they would put to sleep. trains then oabedance and pulling., then at the end of snow season he culls down to 70 dogs and finds homes for the fully trained dogs. So abused !!!!!

They only look evenly matched because they are almost all black and white! Size-wise they have a huge variable. Heyoka is a pure mal and is over 130 lbs. Hobo is an alaskan husky and just over 36 pounds! Most of mine are shelter dogs too or dogs that I adopted from other mushers!

John Schandelmeier, who ran the Quest this year, has started a rescue league for sled dogs in Fairbanks, the Second Chance League. I think they are on petfinder.

    Yep, that's it....abuse runs rampant....

Your dogs are beautiful!! If that's what makes them happy, let them pull....that's what they were bred to do!!

As for pictures...I am always slightly disappointed when I see one of your threads that don't have pictures! lol I never get tired of pictures.

Completely, totatally, 100% off! I live in the far North. I've worked for the Yukon Quest, I've been to the Iditarod, I have many friends who run both races. Never seen anything like the sled dog action coalition claims happens.

Are there bad mushers? sure, just like there are bad abusive pet dog owners. As a musher, I'll guarentee you don't get far with your dogs or your fellow mushers if you aren't decent to your dogs.
