    FIP Testing for Zelda

Zelda's showing some of the same symptoms as Izzy had for FIP - bloated tummy and sneezing fits. Hopefully the cause lies with something else, but I'm not sure... Anyway, she's going to the white coats this afternoon for testing. Wish us luck!

Well, the vet looked Zelda over and says she looks ok. ^_^ They did take a blood sample. Her tummy doesn't feel like it has any fluid in it - she's just "fluffy." The vet once again felt to see if this darling spayed girl had any babies growing inside her (which lets you know about how "fluffy" she is). And the verdict is that she might've just picked up a touch of kennel cough from Izzy.

Still keeping positive thoughts that Zelda is OK. When do you get the results of the blood sample?

Not for a while. The vet gave a call to the lab after I left and they told her that it'd take another couple of weeks for there to be a change in titres. So I'm going to be taking her back in for testing later.

I hope very much that the tests prove the vet right and that Zelda is okay. Gentle pets for you, Zelda.

Sound like one of those test like Feline Leukemnia exposure that you have to wait 90 days to retest. Sounds like the lab is telling the vet there could be a false negative testing now than waiting later to do the test.

I'm sending best wishes and positive thoughts to you and Zelda!

It would surprise me - if she had picked up the FIP virus from your Isabel who after all lived with you only for a very short time - if she's showing any symptoms that early. So I hope it's something else!!

Keeping fingers and paws crossed here,
    Kirsten

The vet seems pretty sure that she'll be ok. I'm just feeling all paranoid about Zelda, and any little thing - like sneezing fits - about sends me into a near panic. -_- I was told to keep an eye on her this week, and if the sneezing fits get worse (which they aren't) or if any other problems start showing up, then get her back down there.

And the vet didn't seem to have any worries about her tummy since it didn't feel like any fluid was in there. I still get a kick out of the complicated medical term the vet used to describe how her tummy felt. Zelda's "fluffy"!

Also, this is the second time that this vet gave Zelda's tummy a feel for non-existant kittens. Then she rolled her over to be absolutely sure she had a spay scar.

I guess I can see why. Doesn't she look like she's about to pop out kittens?

    oh my yes!

She's going to give birth in about 2 weeks!!! (kidding). My goodness she is preggy looking. Don't take the test seriously though. When my vet told me the positive for the corona virus meant my kitten (Puff) had a virus that could be one of a thousand different viruses (including fip), I took a chance. He was a foster kitten and he "survived" quite fine. In other words- despite symptoms and a positive titer- he DID NOT have fip. So relax... if you can. You've had fip in your house? No wonder you're nervous! My vet wouldn't let me get anothere cat after I had a fip kitten (several years and apts before above kitten) for at least one year. One year of bleaching everything. She wanted me to take more than normal protection. My Cheops died of dried version. I had him admitted to Angel Memorial in Boston for a spinal tap and the outcome was that he had no spinal fluid. And now was in a coma. I brought him home. I pulled my futon into the kitchen where the heat source for the apt. was from the stove (way the apt was built- a heating element in the stove!). I lay on the futon with him friday, Sat, and part of sun. I had to turn him over every couple of hours, (he peeded without knowing it and seemed to be asleep). Finally, Sunday, I asked a friend to bring him to the Feline Hospital to put to sleep. She did and then I went to work. My supervisor told me that I have a problem if I need time off for my cat dying. I didn't respond. years later, my friend told me that Cheops did wake up after the injection and he opened his eyes and cried- they both (vet and friend yvonne) burst into tears. I'm glad I didn't know that for so long. fip sucks. I'm way off track here! sorry!!!!

Oh Lacey I am so sorry to hear about Izzy and now your concerns about Zelda. I had missed the other thread about Izzy but just read it now. I had no idea all that had happened. I'll say a prayer for Zelda that she is FIP free and totally healthy.
