My dog limps after she wakes up.

Our dog, kaia, a mini schnauzer is about 5 years old now. We adpoted her from animal shelter about 8 months ago.
Last week, we brought her to the vet to get dental cleaning, then she threw up in the middle of getting her teeth cleaned. Somehow she swallowed back the substance and had trouble with breathing because some of them got into her lungs.
We were given some antibiotics now to clean the bacteria in her body. (Furomsemide & Amoxilyn).
She slept alot after got back from the vet (from anesthesia effect).
Then a couple days later she went back to normal. Kind of active again. Just last night, we noticed her left back leg limps everytime after wakes up from a long sleep and she leaned her body on the left side. She will limp around 1 minutes and afterwards acts normal again. If she leaned her body on the right side while sleeping, everything seems normal. We're just wondering if anyone has had similar experience. Any advice or input will be much appreciated.

Anesthesia can be scary and aspirating is a danger, especially if there isn't a breathing tube inserted during the procedure. The lighter anesthesia used for dentals is supposedly so safe and light, but there's always a danger that this can happen. The best safeguard is to make sure they receive nothing by mouth appx. 12 hrs. before the surgery. Did she accidentally get some water that morning? Thankfully she's ok!!!

Since Kaia was a rescue, perhaps she is a bit older than 5? Still, at age 5 she may have some early arthritic changes on that one side (hip perhaps) or she may have some pre-existing hip dysplasia with arthritis resulting from that. The only way to know for certain would be through an exam and xray. I would suggest calling the vet and maybe getting her checked out, even if you decide against the xray. Perhaps she/he could recommend a glucosamine/chondrotin supplement which has helped many dogs with this problem, including my Cody. There are other anti inflammatories that can be prescirbed such as Etogesic, but are usually prescribed for more severe cases. And light exercise is important to keep her joints limber, but I wouldn't overdo it until your vet gives the ok. I hope it's nothing more serious than a little arthritis. I would talk to the vet first and see if there is something wrong with its leg and go from there.

Sounds like maybe slow blood flow on that one side. It may be like when you sleep wrong and your arm "falls asleep". I would take the dog back to the vet just in case there is a clot on that side preventing the blood from flowing properly. Not unusual for humans to have the same thing after surgery. That is why you have to wear the stocking after surgery to prevent clotting.
My dog had a stroke and it's entire right side was numb. It is coming back now but it's front right paw is still numb. May want to make sure your dog gets the proper excercise and give an asprin for pain.

I took her to the vet last week, and they gave her aspirin. I guess she's feeling better now eventhough sometimes she's still limping, but it's not as bad as it was.

I don't have any advice, but I really do hope your schnuazer gets well soon. Can you share more about your little pup? I just really love schnauzers!! escpecially minis!
