LilEli's off to the white coats on Monday

After trying to treat his ear problem myself (and unsuccessfully I might add) with eardrops for a yeast infection, I made an appointment with the white coats. My legs and arms have become shredded wheat trying to handle him and put the drops in his ears all by myself. I tried for the last time last night, even grabbing him out of his window box, something I said I would NEVER do because he feels "safe" in it. He took one look at the bottle and let out this sad, pathetic YOWL!!! I felt so bad for him, I just let him go.

So, I have all Monday till 3:30 to try and get him into a carrier. He's distrustful of me because of it. I figured maybe the vet can give him a little something to calm him down then look into his ears, clean them out good and give him a shot of antibiotics for it.

*sigh* Oh the trials and tribulations of being owned by a semi-feral kitty!!

The newest addition to our family - Red - is being treated for a similar condition. He had some yucky reddish-brown discharge from his right ear earlier in the week. So off we went to the Vet. He has a combination of yeast and bacteria.

We are giving him Tri-Otic twice a day. He is a gem to medicate, be it pill, liquid or drops. Somewhere in his life, before he turned up on our doorstep, he must have gotten used to this. He has only one eye - the right one was surgically removed. When and for what reason we have no idea - he arrived without a resume.

    Good luck on Monday.

    Grace,

I'm not sure if it's earmites or a yeast infection. When he fell out of my front window back in September he was out and about for 5 days. I then treated him with Revolution to get rid of any earmites, ticks or fleas he MAY have gotten while out.

I examined his ears for a very (and I do mean, nanoseconds) short time and it seems as though he has some kind of grit on the inside. I have a feeling it's just a bad case of a yeast infection. I HOPE it can be treated with just a shot, cuz this cat is really scared, after all I've tried to do to treat it myself. We'll know more on Monday.

Yeah, LilEli arrived without a resume as well. Kimmy (Ramanth) has his brother and Mama. All are very healthy.

Glad Red is such a sweetie when having to be medicated.

Never had the joy of *doing* ear-drops with a Kat...

I'll make note of your Idea to let the White Coat handle that!

Donna, I'm sorry to hear that Lil Eli is still having ear problems.

I can relate with you about having a semi-feral cat because my Cirrus is one too. The only way that I can get him into a carrier is to chase him into my bathroom, close the door, corner him behind the toilet, and then use a broom or mop to chase him into the carrier. He becomes so scared that he acts just like a wild animal and I become quite scared of him too. He's now known as "killer" at my vets because he bit my vet in the crotch area after his surgery.

Good luck with getting Lil Eli into the carrier and I hope he's good at the vets and that it's easily treatable. Please keep us updated.

LilEli was such a great boy today!!! He was scared, but didn't scratch or anything!

It's definitely earmites. The doctor said that my treating him with the medicine for a yeast infection DEFINITELY helped. He didn't see any live earmites in his ears, so he gave me Mita Clear, which is to be administered once a week for 3 week! Bless his heart!!

I also have to treat everyone else in the house as well.

Glad we can get rid of his problem. He's not to happy right now, but at least I can help him.

    Thanks for the support guys!!

    Phred,

Actually the carrier insertion was a no brainer. I put it down on the floor and opened the door. What's that old saying about curiosity in cats? Well, it worked. LilEli walked right in and I quickly shut the door.!!

Since treating everyone else in the household with the Mita Cure, I've got a bunch of cats with airplane ears in the house!! Unfortunately my camera batteries are charging.

Glad to here Eli is on the mend that that it was nothing serious. Eli, watch out if the "others" start giving you dirty looks. When Pepper came home with ear mites and the other two had to take medicine..... Somehow they knew it was Pepper's fault.
Ask your vet about microchipping. ~ It could have saved Kuhio's life.

I'm so glad to hear that everything went well at the vets and that Lil Eli was a good boy. I hope this new medicine will clear up Eli's ears and kill all of the ear mites. Good luck.
