    What Breed??

I am looking for a horse. I had one on loan but i sadly outgrew it.. i do quite a lot of x country and show jumping so i would like one suitable for this, however, i dont want one that is too excitable when out hacking... has anyone got any suggestions to what breed would be ideal??

well it depends what level of riding you want to do. I personally love Arabs, but if you don't want a very high strung horse i wouldn't reccomend that. you could look at your local shelter for a horse that's already been trained and is good at jumping and corsscountry

I think your best breed to go with would be a nice Thoroughbred, if you are going to do show jumping eventing, and cross country. My good friend Laura S. is an extreme show jumper, eventer and cross country rider and that is the only breed she rides. She has been on many different breeds (Arabs, Warmbloods, etc) and she says nothing is like a Thoroughbred when it comes to show jumping, eventing, and cross country.

Warmbloods are also excellent show jumpers, but most well trained jumping Warmbloods cost over $20,000. Example: Dow Jones: Click Here

I personally love Arabians and good ol' Quarter Horses (and Appendix), but I do not ride English any more.

An awesome website to look for horses up for sale, lease or stud is www.equine.com I look around that site at least 5 times a day, I am obsessed with that site! I highly recommend you check it out!!

    Good luck with your search!

I think for jumping warmbloods are best
Dutch warmblood, danish warmblood, sweedish warmblood... hannoverians and holsteiners...I think arabs are ... well how to say, they´re great horses, but now recomennded for beginners(I´m sorry if you´re not begginner )....

    Thelwell2003-

I am going to post links to Laura's webshot albums. You can take a peek if you'd like. There are pictures of her TB Victor, her cross country schooling w/ Victor, jumper shows w/ Victor, Rolex show in Kentucky, etc.

Click Here: Cross Country & Gymnastics Picture Album

I just adore Victor! He is an awesome Thorougbred. He is 16.1 hh and does what ever the rider asks him to do. He and Laura are amazing to watch!! Laura and I call him Muley Man, cause he kinda looks like a mule with his big ears.

    *sorry the pictures are huge*

Smudge is a cutie pie. Gorgeous saddle, love the color, what company is it made by!? Kinda reminds me of a Collegiate or Crosby.

Post more pictures if you get a chance!!
