    While I was out

While I was out - like a light that is.... I finally got my nap.

While I was napping, somehow the back door managed to become WIDE OPEN. Grant came home from school to find Allen rolling around on the concrete by the back door and Pouncer standing in the kitchen looking out like "No way I'm going out there! It's COOOOLLLLDDDD."

Thank goodness that Allen was having a ball rolling around and didn't think to run. Even better thanks for Pouncer not liking cold because he hasn't been wearing his collar. How on Earth did my back door get wide open?

I think I'd die if either of my guys fled! They both had ample opportunity.

    Ok, that is scary.

Maybe the door wasn't latched and the wind got it. Just a guess. I really hope that someone didn't open it, that would be really scary.

Well, I am glad to hear that noone decieded to run.

I think someone actually TRIED to open the door because not one but TWO doors were open. We have a small room attached to the back of the house that was basically a closed in porch (we call it the mudroom - its where we drop our shoes and sports equipment.) The kitchen door is a metal storm door and the door to the porch is a large french door. Both doors were open. I might consider that one of the kids left the kitchen door slightly open and one of the cats pryed it open to get into the mudroom to watch life through the french doors... this has happened with lazy teens and bird-watching cats. But neither could cat open a door inward as was the case with the french door. SCARY. I am just so glad my boys were good and didn't run away!

I'm so glad no one wandered off too far. Shame on you Allen for going out but good boy for just rolling around.

What good boys! But I know that was scary for you. My cats come and go as they please (as long as someone is here to open the door or window for them), but they really choose to stay inside most of time and I am so glad for that. But the dogs worry me in the same way you were worried! 2 of 4 will bolt, and Zipper gets out more than the others. At least we can catch him usually (those boys have to wet everything in sight, you know), but if Honey were to get out, we might never catch her. It has only happened a few times, but each time, I swear it takes 10 years off of my life.

Wow that is scary news and good news all in one! Thank goodness your boys didn't take off! Allen was doing what we call "loving the concrete". Never could understand that

Do you think someone came into your house and saw you sleeping so they got scared and left? You know you should lock your doors especially when you are home alone! Ok, done with the mother lecture now I'm really glad that you and the boys are ok.

I wasn't home alone. My son was home sick sleeping on the couch and my daughter was home from school already. Chances are that one of the kids didn't completely shut the kitchen door and one of the cats pried it open to sit in the mudroom to watch the world go by. I have NO idea how the french doors got open. Pouncer's been trying to figure them out, but that door swings in, not out, so I know he'd never be able to manipulate a door inward. So, I'm hoping a good srtong gust of wind blew it open.

And yes, we need to start locking all the time - the neighborhood is nice, but on the cusp of turning bad.
