Do your pets of different species get along?

I thought this was an excellent poll when I read it this morning and voted Yes. So many people, I think, are afraid of mixing species in their households. I know I was that one day almost 11 years ago when my son brought Trevor (cat) into my "dog" home. Since then I have introduced another cat (Andy) into the household and also two poodles (different than my original two) and all have gotten along. I know I am not alone and that many others are successful at pet blending. I think the trick is doing it when the animals are young. All of mine were kittens or puppies (with the exception of Ripley) when they met the others. I am quite sure that I could never introduce a bunny or squirrel though, due to the way the dogs react to them in the yard!

How about you? Success stories or failures?

Since I only have cats and mice, I do not allow them to interact. So I guess I'd have to say NO.

(a select few of my cats would not harm the mice, but the others.........LUNCH!)

Those are adorable pictures, YLL, and an excellent poll, Pam.

Let's see: we have 5 different species, and no problems. Malone & Marigold are tolerant though a bit distant (Malone just wants to play, play play!!)

Both Marigold & Malone loves Willow the bunny, and the bunny loves them back.

We keep Rilla the cockatiel in the living room, and Marigold shut out of there when we aren't around. However even when we are around she doesn't show any real interest in her anyway.

So, yes, I would say they all get along pretty well!!

Daisy gets along with the cats very well, as you can see from this picture.

Molly gets along well with the cats, but she would never lay with them.

Both dogs I would NOT trust with the bird, alone, and they both get alone well with the hamster.

Nope they hardly get along at all

Somewhere I have a pic of all 4 of them (2 dogs 2 cats) lying together, but I can't find it.

    edited to add:

    I forgot about these pics.

My cats dislike the dogs. They'll tolerate Roxy, but hate Dusty because he chases them. When he catches them, all he wants to do is play. lol.

Growing up, we mixed all sorts of interesting things together. We lived in town, but our backyard was a farm. We had Christy, an Alaskan Malmute-Timber wolf living with what started out to be 2 rabbits and wound up being about 20 , a turtle, and two baby chicks. We also had a cat smurf. They all got along great. In fact, the rabbits would chase Christy and vice versa. At night, the chicks would curl up in Christy's fur to sleep.

One chick got sick and died. The other chick, this is so sad....a stray cat went to pounce on the chick. Christy snatched the chick up in her mouth. She just wanted to save it...it was her motherly instinct. Well, she killed it. She cried and cried and kept nudging the chick with her nose. She wanted to wake it back up.

I was very young, but it was really sad for me as a little girl. As an adult, I'd never mix my dogs with small animals because of that.

Mickey likes to listen to the birds chirp but when they get loud, a few times he's barked at them. We're lucky he doesn't try to knock the cage down though since he loves to chase the birds outside. And when I pick him up so he can see them, he loves watching them move around.

Kai gets along really well with rats. He had two sitting on him and did great. Kai gets along with cats as long as they aren't running outside. In the house, he's curious and wants to sniff but if there's one outside, he wants to chase it.

Simba is fine as long as i'm there telling him to be nice.

Nala is fine period. she's never met any rats or anything, but she's good with my brother's cats.

LMAO @ the sign on YLL's rat cage.

Shelteez2,This one is just too funny, you can't tell where one begins and the other one ends:

As far as how mine gets along, Grover chases the chihuahuas around, and trys to play with them. She is bigger than they are.

Thank You, kittycats_delight for my new siggy!!!

Oops I misunderstand this question as in "do they get along with your other pets" Not sure where I got that but anyways...

Mickey likes to chase the birds outside but he's okay withi other animals. He gets really excited around dogs but he does get along with them and the only cat he's ever met kept hissing at him when he just wanted to play. Not a good experience But whenever I tell him "Nice" he calms down, so he's good with them.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha- like it!?! It got all chewed up and torn so I had to take it off, I never got around to making a new one.

In case some can't read it, it says: "Despite all our rage we're still just rats in a cage!" Which is a line in an old Smashing Pumpkins song.

    No.

I do not trust Digger, Chubby, or Prince with Nelly-- at all. I won't even let them be in the same room together if Nelly is out of her cage. I know that Otis wouldn't hurt her at all. I trust him.

If you count Otis as a different species... they get along.
