    Started to Kneed...

We adopted George 1 1/2 years ago, He has always cuddled and purred very loudly,in fact I can hear him !!!

But my Georgie has just started to kneed with his paws in the last week.

I just wondered why he has just started with this behaviour ?

LOL, I'm just wondering, what does kneeding actually mean? I *think* I know, but I'm not really sure. I heard it used before too, but I never knew what it meant

this photo reminds me of a game, can you figure out how many cats are in the picture and kind of reminds me of a quilt too. It's a great picture.

enjoy the kneeding. I don't have any answer for you. My little kneeder, spats the tuxedo boy, is relentless but falls to sleep quickly.

I've heard that kneeding is a comfort thing for cats. They kneed their mothers breasts when they are babies to help bring out the milk, so often they associate the kneeding with the comfort of being with their momma. Maybe now George is just more comfortable around you and he is knows that you are his mommy. Tibby likes to kneed on me all the time, I think it's so cute she purrs so loud and has that "happy kitty" look on her face.

Thanks for the great signature Kay!

I hope you are right, I was concerned he was feeling more needy, with the other cats in the house.

Milly.Milo, Bramble & Tigs also kneed a lot but Sandy, Treacle & George don't usually.

When a cat kneads, s/he is pushing their paws -left/right/left/right alternatly against you. Usually starts with kittens to help the flow of milk to the nipple they are suckling. Latter in life it's to soften you up!LOL

I think that Georgie finally feels comfy enough to know that you are his butlers and is telling you that by kneading.

Gigi and Lucy had never kneeded until I bought a very soft blanket which I sometimes put over my bed. They kneed this every time they get on it and quite clearly love the feel of it. Sometimes they go into absolute ecstasies!

    The Need to Knead

Kneading is a very good thing! It means you are truly your cat's meowmie!

My Spats does it to my neck every morning and every night when he jumps on the bed. Even when I don't want him to if I'm reading something, he insists and after going into some wonderful state of ecstasy, he goes right to sleep.

It's soo sweet but I have to clip his nails to protect my neck.

    I wouldn't change anything.

    I'm not sure...

...but I've only even known cats that were happy to do it

I LOVE THAT PIC OF ALL THE KITTIES!!!

Mum to two little humans, a very vocal 14 year old Ragdoll, and a super energetic and snuggly rescue kitten.

Bonnie used to only kneed occasionally but since her bruv (Jock) passed away in October she does it all the time. (Not sure if thats connected!!) Anyway I love it when she does it but my boyfriend gets jealous as she doesn't do it to him much. Although the other evening I had just demolished a curry and she decided to try it on my tum, not good !!!

Juni likes to knead too and she does that esp. on fleecy things. Now, it's enough to put her or Pichu's cushion on my lap and invite her with the same meow she's making when she kneads and she's right on my lap kneading We've done this to show to most of the guests we had at our house and all of them were impressed of me "talking cat language" . No matter what Juni does, she comes right then when I call her. That's a sight to see.

Schuyler kneads or "makes biscuits" on my hair/neck in the mornings so that I will get up and feed him, but I prefer to think of it as a massage to show just how much he loves his Meowmy!
