    Elfin has been adopted

My little orange sweetie has found a new home. But please send him some good thoughts. The home visit (as required for adoption) did not go 100% well. I was not the one to do it (that is NOT my specialty) and I am glad that I did not, because it was stressful. It seems Dad and kids picked out the WRONG cat! Mom wanted a cat over 1 year, already neutered and front declawed! Well, I hope and pray that if Elfin is not to her satisfaction that they will abide by the contract and return him to us. One of the directors will be calling later today to talk to her more, I hope she relays the conversation to me quickly. I believe that Elfin, being the sweetheart that he is, can win this lady over, but what about the declaw issue? I mean this man DID sign a binding agreement that it would not be done. He did take home my pamphlet on why it SHOULD not be done. But if the woman wants it done there is nothing to stop her from going behind our backs. As for the other issues, he WILL get older and if paying for the neuter is such a nuisance how can she even expect to be a cat caretaker? So keep Elfin in your thoughts, he really is a lovebug of a kitty and deserves the right family.

    Poor Elfin

I am sorry to be negative but I think anyone so specific in their requirements, is likely to look at a cat as an item rather than a pet.

And as the Declawing...I bet £10 that he is declawed and neuter together at six months (though I really hope I am wrong)

I wouldn't let him go to that family, if you have any sway with the charity use it and keep him until his real family come for him.

    The word is OK.
Deb, from the rescue, talked to the lady today. She is just an uninformed type of pet owner. I guess I should be more specific, uninformed cat owner. Most of her experience was with dogs, and there is no shame in that. You need to have your first cat sometime. She said she was just very surprised at Elfin yesterday because she did not think she wanted a KITTEN. But of course the kids did. She loves his personality (which I knew she would) and he will be a fine pet and member of the family. I can not be sure she won't declaw, but then you can NEVER be 100% sure because people will lie to get what they want. We will check on him regularly and we will hope she reads the info and makes the right decision. As for the man, he sure bought enough "stuff" at Petco yesterday, and asked all the right questions that a new cat owner should ask, so I know their hearts are in the right place.
    SO
Have a good life Elfin. I am glad I had the priveledge to know you.

    Jen,

While I'm glad Elfin has a wonderful furrrever home, I've gotta tell ya that no matter WHAT kind of paperwork they sign, once the cat is in their home, they can basically do what they want, i.e., declaw.

I hope Elfin is happy in his new home.

Elfin, I wish you the best of luck for your new home!!!

Please teach them all about the love of a cat and how a cat wants to be treated and be a good and happy boy...

    Jen,
I hope the Elfins new mommy will listen about the declawing and maybe she will. Remember when I first got here I didn't know what declawing was until you explained it to me through your pamplet and which forced me to go looking for what it involved. I was one of those uninformed cat owners too. I mean my vet had me believing that all declawing involved was just yank out the nail. I had no idea it involved amputation!

I seen pictures of this and it made me cringe. Hopefully they will feel the same way.

I am so glad I came to Pet Talk when I did, or I would have been one of those that did the same dumb thing to my sweet little Grover. Would not have seen her climb the walls like she does!

Thank You for informing me, Jen and making me into a informed pet owner.

That would be the hardest part of fostering, letting a kitty go to a future over which you no longer hold control

    GOOD LUCK ELFIN!!
