Moving dogs from shelter

We are considering holding bi-monthly meet-n-greets to generate interest in some of the dogs that don't get a lot of looks. The shelter our group rescues from is a dog control shelter; not really set up to be inviting to the public, so we need to come up with unique ways to show the dogs off. Has anyone held an off-site meet-n-greet or been to one? Thoughts? Feedback? I'm currently fostering a dog that everyone falls in love with when they meet him in person, but he doesn't get a lot of interest from the Website for some reason.

Our shelter here has off-site adoptions in 3 locations around the city. We have a mobile pet adoption unit which gets a lot of attention in itself. We aren't real creative in the off-site adoption areas though. I think the main reason people go to them is when the area is closer to their home than the shelter. We also go to PetSmarts and Petcos.

Chicagoland Shepherd Rescue has an adoption event every month at a Pet supply store. I think it is a great way to meet the dogs and get to know them. They also have a website to showcase the dogs, too.

I think off site adoption sites is a marvelous idea. Looking at a dog through bars of a cage has a connotation of a dog to be afraid of. There is a shelter in my area that even pictures their dogs on the website through the bars of the cage. What does that say to people...that even the photographer was afraid to be in direct contact with the dog? I know there are logistical problems in viewing shelter dogs, but anything that can be done to help people see the dog as a potential family member rather than a dangerous animal behind bars has got to be a big help.
