Thread: I don't understand some people

    I don't understand some people

Doorbell rings... and I open the door to find my neighbour from the house accross standing on my doorstep holding her cat. (I've only met her once - I went over to her house to make sure that a stray I had captured to TNR wasn't hers, as the watchman had told me she had a black and white cat).....

She says " Hi, I'm moving to Dubai at the end of the month, and I know you like cats - I was wondering if you'd like mine?"

They have lived here for 4 years, and had the cat all this time. Dubai is only 1 hour away by plane (6 hours by car), and she is point-blank not prepared to take Sam with her. He is a gorgeous long-haired black and white one. Of course I HAD to say no - hubby is still getting used to having 2 cats, plus Sam is an inside/outside cat, and has access to the house via a flap. Logistically even with a magnetic flap, I would be too worried about my two getting out. (Ally is such a baby when it comes to the big outdoors and Connor being deaf.... lets just say I'd rather not risk it).

I've told her I'll put the word out, and ask the shelter if they will try to re-home him.

UUUGH - it just makes me so mad - Sam has been a part of their lives for 4 years - how can they just leave him behind? I don't understand some people

You know some people just have nerve. I think my mouth would have dropped to the ground and a few choice words would have come out. People just amaze me.

That is so crass , and it unfairly puts you on the spot. If you say no , will they wait for a Shelter , or just dump Poor Sam.That reminds me of how I gotthe Late Smoke. The Tire Shop next door went Bankrupt and they tied her to the stairs where I worked , and left the Poor Cat out in a downpour. Some People!

The fact is, some people just see their pets as an accessory or a piece of furniture. Your pets are lucky. You love them. We all wish we could help every animal, but we can't. Take comfort in the fact that you're helping all you can.

I will be good and just say that makes me mad. I think that is kind of rude of her to put you on the spot like that too. I hope that the poor kitty can find another home.

On the other side the neighbour may be a unfeeling moron, but at least they did try. Ok, so I may be giving more credit then deserved.

Good luck with the effort, I know that you will do all that you can.

Wow ! I have no Idea how she could give her baby away for such a reason ! We have moved several times from here to tenn. and back here to texas . Each time we loaded up all our babys and carried them with us . Even when we just go to tenn, to visit my mom ,the babies go to . I would not leave without them !

It is SO sad that these people won't take their cat along. How can they just leave like that. Did you ask what they intend to do if they don't find a home for the cat?

I really hope a loving home will be found for this cat! Perhaps a picture put on a poster in the area will help.

    All the best of luck!!

This is reminding me of my neighbor ringing my doorbell and telling me "you can have the last two kittens". What? Two ferals that he couldn't catch.

Their names are Annie and Emma - two demanding twins that have developed the habit of jumping on my tummy in the morning when all else fails to wake me.

I even took Grover with me on vacation, borrowed a pet carrier from my mother, and she went to. I would not have went on vacation if I couldn't take my Grover with me, of course she was about two or three months old, but I just couldn't leave her.
I got one of the best cats I ever owned from somebody that was moving back to New Zealand, she advertised in the paper that she had a simease cat for sale for 10 dollars, she let me have everything that went with her, her litter, her food. When I got there to get her I was very happy with her, named her Pyewackett, I don't know if she was really a full blooded simease or not, she didn't have the black markings on her, but she had the prettyest blue eyes. What I didn't know was the she was pregnant. So I got a lot more than I bargained for, lol. She became my best buddy. She was a little afraid of living in the country, she sit of night on top of me listening to the crickets and the frogs in the pond with these beautiful huge eyes. She never did learn to like dogs though. LOL. I just can't see how somebody can have a cat for four years and it become part of the family and be able to give it up. I just don't see that at all. I hope Sam finds a good home, a home everlasting.

here is a picture of my pyewackett, and the other bargain that came with her. she is gone now but she lived with me for 16 or 17 years.

Some people make me so mad

Did you ask this excuse of an owner, why she wasn't taking her pet to the new house ?

I don't supposed it makes a difference but maybe cats should be licenced.

Bahrain to Dubai and leaving their pet? That is just ridiculous! Its so close and so easy to take the pet. How can they leave without him. Poor kitty. Hope he finds a good home, or his family reconsiders and takes him.
