This story makes me so mad I wanna .. do something.. ARGH.. but I need some help.
Where my parents live, there are a lot of feral cats. My mom has always made sure to leave food out for them, and when she could, she would trap them (which is how we ended up with two out of our three cats there). Well, this year, there are three young cats at their property. She called the humane (yes.. HUMANE) society in Bend, Oregon, and they told her "we won't bother catching cats, and even if you brought them to us, we would put them down. We don't have time to tame feral cats. It takes too much effort and we are busy."![]()
Then, my mom asked if she could at least borrow a trap, because it's cold and she's afraid they will freeze to death, and they said "we don't lend out traps. We don't even have any. Ask a local pet store. They might rent one to you." So anyway, it's a very sad story. My mom asked the person at the INhumane society if she knew about a local cat rescue, and she said no. I was sure I had seen on in Bend before online, but I will have to look it up again. My mom also called animal control, and they said the "don't bother" rescuing cats, just dogs. At this point, my mom just wants them to stay safe
Right now, their water is freezing at night. I know someone posted here that you could put salt in the water to keep it from freezing - what is the concentration that is appropriate? Also, is there a way to make a trap that will automatically close? Finally, does anyone know of a cat rescue that would be willing to take these cats in? One is a white one with orange stripes on the tail, and the other two are tabbies. Please let me know ASAP so these babies don't freeze
