Anyone with experience with paralized cats??

I posted in General about my moms cat Figaro. She came home Tuesday night and found that he was dragging his back end. We know he was not hit by a car because he had no broken bone and no tell tale signs like missing fur or torn claws. Instead we are pretty sure that he took a good fall from a tree. He dislocated his hip and as of this morning the vet said he was doing really well. As of tonight, he can not go the bathroom by himself and he can not stand up at all.

Does anyone have any type of experience with a "handicapped" kitty? I know that companies make little wheels for the back legs so the cats can still be "mobile" but I was really wondering if anyone here has had to deal with a kitty like this and if so, can you offer any advice, information, etc.....

I'm really at a loss. I don't know what to tell my mom, I can not find any information on cat paralasis in any of my books.

Any help, advice, or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...Meg

I'm so sorry to hear about Figaro I took care of a dog once that had a cart. I don't remember what disease he had but he was also incontinent. But we would put the cart on him and take him for walks. Here's a website for you to check out. www.k9carts.com

I don't have personal experience, but I found a Yahoo group who specializes in Handicapped cats. You might want to join them, since they seem to have a lot of info and could answer your questions.

    Hope this helps!

What does the vet say??? Did she/he discharge Figaro with a positive prognosis?? A human, or kitty, shouldn't suffer permanent paralysis from a dislocated hip. Perhaps he needs a period of rehabilitation and healing during which time he may need some assistance. The vet should be keeping you informed re: how he should be progressing

    I'm so sorry about this!

Luckily, I have no personal experience but I think with a dislocated hip bone, he might have good chances to recover! What did the vet say?

I hope little Figaro will do better soon!

I'm so sorry that Figaro isn't better. Has the vet checked him thouroghly? Let's hope he'll be able to get some treatment that helps!

Best of luck, we'll keep all paws and fingers crossed for Figaro!

I found this site which may answer some of your questions.
