    Hiccups

My little baby Bella (13 wks. old) seems to get the hiccups a lot. It is usually after eating and then running around, but it can really happen any time. My other dogs got them occasionally but Bella seems to have more than her fair share. Anyone else have a hiccuping dog?

No hiccups here, Pam, but Lilly can surely "BURP" with the best of them... It is quite embarassing at times!!!

Thanks Corinna. I guess I'll just have to wait it out and hopefully they will lessen as she gets older. She could be in the Guinness Book right now!

Logan, that's a riot! Maybe Lilly is sneaking some carbonated beverages behind your back.

Star, my lab, constantly had hiccups as a puppy. Ususally after eating/playing. Sometimes they would last for 1/2 hr! The vet said that this is very common in young dogs and puppies. She outgrew "them" at about 1 year!

Pam, I was at PetEducation.Com (Drs. Foster and Smith) and saw an article that said hiccups were very common in pups under 8 months. Like a human baby, they get hiccups when ingesting too much air while eating, drinking and when excited.

Thank you everybody for setting my mind at ease. It has been years since I've had a new puppy and I guess I have forgotten a lot!

Daisy had hiccups constantly when she was a puppy! She grew out of it though and I can't even remember the last time she had them. Don't worry about it, it's perfectly normal

My St. Bernard got the hiccups when she was a pup too. We finally realized that she was eating to fast. We started giving her little bits of food at a time. Hiccups went away. It takes longer to feed them, but it worked for her.
