Thread: Kitty names?

    Kitty names?

I have a stupid post lmao. My friends cat is having kittens she thinks late next month..anyway, I asked mom if she'd allow another if I were to get it spayed/neutered and declawed myself (he/she would be an indoor kitty like smitten) One question is, would a female get along with a male kitten? I've introduced her to another female kitten before, who she hated at first but after she got use to her grew on her. So I know it's possible. Do you think cats are better off with a friend to play with? I know she played a lot with the other kitten..but is it fair to her? She doesn't like attention much now unless its just a pat here and there..so I can't see her being jealous unless we like completely neglected her (wont happen) My mom is only allowing (maybe, hasnt said yes..but by how she talked it seems like a yes..) another kitten when we move into her new place because its bigger then her aptment. I guess she'd also need time to adjust to the new place before a new kitten was to come in. I'm hoping we're in by october..so much lol. Or I doubt I'll get one The mothers name is Chicken (lol) who is also being given away I think..She is a mix of colors, very pretty. I'm hoping the kittens will be too

ANYWAY, to my point..I decided to think of names in advanced even though it will just disapoint me more later when I find out I can't get it I really want one though..I have a few stupid names for now I was wonder which you like more? I'm thinking I'd end up with something comepletely diff once I see the kitten but anyway..and yes they are all japanese related names cause I wanted a jap name..they sound cool (atleast till I think of a cool english name which I know I have one I can't think of..grr!)

    Here they are:
    Female:
kitsune - fox (male or female?) could call it kit for short LOL
kashu- strong drink - think its cute..
    hasha - supreme ruler

    Male:
tsume - claw (suem-eh) lol a wolf from 'Wolfs Rain' anime :x
    Ryuu - dragon
hotaru - firefly (taru for short..i duno sounds kinda cute..)
    nazo - enigma
kai - (-cough- another anime character..love the name)
thor - god of thunder (I like norse mythology..duno if I like it for a kitty name htough)
kiba- fang (another wolf from 'Wolfs Rain')

Ok a lot I don't like for a cats name but I love the name..whats your fav of those male and female names..even your own suggestions would be cool..thanks er, arigatou

PLEASE don't get the cat declawed! All of my cats (and fosters) are indoor only and they ALL have their claws. Do a search for declaw here on Pet Talk and you will find some helpful information that will hopefully change your mind about it.

I have to is the thing...We weren't planing to with Smitten but she destroyed A LOT of stuff. My mom just couldn't afford it..it was either that or we had to get rid of her So I guess its 'Sorry no cat' If it was up to me then no I wouldn't..But I've seen the process of a cat being declawed in 2 different ways...One being less painful as they only took out up to where the claw one grow back instead of the whole joint..Lets say that I don't get a kitten cause I don't want to declaw it..whos to say the person who does take it won't?

I had a female cat (Squeak)for a year & then went to the humane society and adopted a male kitty(Bernie). We kept them apart for about a week allowing them to get used to each others smells. When we did finally let them in the same room they only went crazy for about an hour or so. They've been good buddies ever since! I like all the names. Good luck I hope you are able to adopt

One alternative is to find a kitty at a shelter that is ALREADY declawed.

Good luck with finding a new kitty and I like all the name!!

Would your mom let you get a kitten if you would put soft paws on it instead of declawing it? Soft Paws are a lot more humaine, not very expensive, and will keep your kitten from destroying things.

I know, but her kittys don't have homes either. She doesn't know enough ppl who can have one..so I'm thinking I'd be helping it out to take it I really don't think declawing is all that bad..I hope you don't think I'm a bad person for it but I've seen so many declawings at the vets..I mean my cousins cat is declawed and it can climb trees and catch birds better then cats WITH claws. I need to get a kitten because it has to be introduced with Smitten and a grown cat (I won't find a declawed kitten at the HS garanteed) will fight back with Smitten where as a kitten won't know what to do..like Patches. This is will be fair for smitten. If it makes you feel better then I 'won't' get it declawed, ok? Atleast this will be the last you hear of it. You really need to look at it from my point of view...Who is to say the owner instead of me will not declaw it either? Its not worst then getting its spayed only being spayed helps the animal. Smitten had no problems when she was declawed. She was a little sore, but she seems to still think she has claws now as she paws at stuff. They don't even know they don't have claws other then its a lttle sore..

Soft paws are nail caps for kitties. It is a GREAT alternative to delawing. And when you see a declawed cat "scratch" at things, it's not because they think they have claws, they are marking their teritory, cats have scent glands on their paws they are are leaving their scent behind. Declawing can give cats back problems as well because they use their claws to fully stretch, and without them they are unable to stretch properly.

Here is the website for soft paws.

You should also talk to your friend about spaying her cat, even if she decides to get rid of it after the babies are born.

She doesn't know enough ppl who can have one..so I'm thinking I'd be helping it out to take it
If you had gotten her cat fixed in the first place she wouldn't be having this problem. But I know what's done is done, but you should really talk to her about getting her cat fixed to keep this from happening again.

I see, that looks neat..but..You'd have to get them changed like every so many weeks when the nails grow out right? It would cost a fortune after a while..which I don't have unfortunatly..Also, if cats need their claws to stretch, then its cause the claws stick into the carpet or whatever giving them a good grip? Then they still couldn't do it with these things..Am I the only person on PT with a cat that is declawed..?? This isn't really my question though..I didn't want to start anything about declawing..I will look into this soft paws if mom will let me but..I don't know I guess I'm just a bad person..I never realized it was so bad..I feel really crummy now..:'(

Its not her cat. Its her sisters. The cat is an indoor cat but escaped one day. They were planning to spay her but it was just a mistake. They can't keep the mother anyway for some reason I guess because her sister lost her house or something

A kitty can still get in a good stretch with the soft paws because it is still able to retract it's claws, it just can't really dig them into anything.

Am I the only person on PT with a cat that is declawed..??
We have had a few pet talk confessionals were a few members have stated that they had gotten their cats declawed but now that they know more information on it and the problems that it can cause later in life they have regretted it and would never again declaw a cat.
